You know what kills me about this? Due to the Browns' own ineptitude, they will luck into getting Pettine (the last man standing)--who will end up being a great HC.

Haslem, et al. will be hailed as geniuses in 2 years, while we are looking for Marrone's replacement.

I am going to save this post, and re-post it in 2016.

You are exactly right.

Well if they offer Pettine the job so be it. But you have to ask yourself if leaving Buffalo for Cleveland is an upgrade??

It is if you're getting a job you dreamed of since you entered coaching (being a head coach in the NFL)!

Those types of chances don't come around often. Would Pettine be getting a real look if Cleveland wasn't so hard up? Sometimes success is about being in the right place at the right time, and that is exactly what is happening here for Pettine IMO.

The Broncos' OC just removed himself from consideration. This isn't setting up nicely for the Bills at all. I would hate to see them lose Pettine. Not sure there are competent replacements available at this time, let alone anyone that could do as well as he did last year.

LOL - the only fans more distraught about this than Cleveland fans seem to be Bills fans.

I could imagine how Cleveland fans are. Really - we're hiring the DC of a last place 6-10 team?!? From Buffalo?!?

Timing could not be worse. They just find out Gase is out, so are probably in scramble mode. Too risky to wait out Quinn, IMO.

How is it too risky to wait out Quinn? All the other openings are filled. There is no competition. For Pettine it's either Clowns or back to Buffalo. Same this week as it will be in 2 weeks.

Mike Pettine came to Buffalo to get out from under Rex Ryan and be considered a HC candidate. That was his plan and it's all working out for him. We need to move on. Even if he stays, which I hope (some how) he does. We'll be in the same boat this time next year. MP isn't the long term answer. Hopefully the Bills Brass is taking a very proactive approach here and lining up possible candidates to replace MP. They can't miss on this hire.

You might be right. But it seems like the longer the Browns wait, the more guys pull out. If they wait on Quinn and Pettine pulls out, it's Quinn or nothing. And Quinn could very well just follow suit, and stay put.
