Here they are:

https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2014/01/13/2013-offensive-line-rankings/

I don't often read PFF, so I'm surprised that Buffalo ranks as highly as they do (15th), given that I've seen PFF referenced many times as an example of why the Bills' OL isn't good.

I always use the eyeball test anyway, and so I'm pleased to see that where they've ranked Buffalo is exactly what I believe I saw: middle of the pack.

Thoughts?

This seems interesting:

PB: 11th, RB: 25th, PEN: 7th

Which is Pass Blocking, Run Blocking, and Penalties respectively, I assume.

Looks like we need better Run Blockers, not Pass Blockers...which seems counterintuitive for a team who finished 2nd in the league in rushing.

Not sure how this squares. Perhaps Fred, and especially CJ, are a lot better than some here would allow?

Anyway, 15th sounds right to me....via yeah, the eyeball test. Of course, you're not going to make any friends in the "Always draft O line first" club with this.

There were some big surprises in there including the Browns who were 5th. The jets were once known for a very stout line and according to these rankings they have stayed up about as well as a rock in swimming pool.

It seems the biggest issue is the Bills at LG. It was also telling that Woods was not pointed out as the stud the coaching staff wants you to believe he is. Maybe its because the talent on either side of him was at question. Hopefully, the Bills are active in FA and the mid rounds of the draft to push this unit forward.

Sounds right to me. Tells you how bad our QB play was and how good our RB's were.

Speaking of counterintuitive, 11th in pass blocking on a team that was 28th in passing?

they were ranked 4th in most sacks allowed.

This is on the QBs.

This is on the QBs.

That seems to be the only logical explanation.

Playcalling could be the culprit, but, over the course of the season? Doubtful.

Also, garbage time. You can be great in pass blocking in garbage time.

But, we didn't have many garbage time games this year, so, it seems QB play is the issue here.

Other interesting stats:

Bills lead the the league in rushing attempts at 34.1, the next closest 3 teams are all at 31.

Bills tied for 2nd in the league in rushing fumbles at 12.

Ah HA!

Bills 22nd in the league in rushing 1st down % at 20.7%. That's where the 28th in Run Blocking really starts to make sense to me.

I agree with that......mostly. especially when Fitz was getting rid of ball in 3 seconds.

also the disaster replacements at LG.

Individual grades

Glenn +23

Urbik +7.6

Wood -5.1

Pears -5

Brown -30.1

Legursky -12.5

The scores are cumulative, had brown played the entire season...-96, he was that bad.

PFF needs more work to refine their OL and non skill set positions.

Example: Miami at 19.

Absolutely agree, which is why I'm not a frequent reader of their material. I've said it before: any ratings system that has Eric Wood in the negatives is a poor barometer of how the position is played. Coaches around the NFL will tell you that he's one of the best centers in the game...and if you don't believe them, ask Haloti Ngata and Dontari Poe.

That's a nice way of putting it.... Agreed

then it is not how they block but when they block? Are they clutch? Going to adjust to a blitz? Take a play off because its a run the other way?

If you read their grading, they spell certain parts out very clearly, while leaving other areas (i.e. "value of a given play") rather nebulous.

The fact that the Bills aren't dead last shows you how great of a player Cordy Glenn is turning into. If he stays healthy he'll be making All-Pros and Pro-bowls for the next 10 years.

it doesn't boil down to a grade on those units. You simply can't match Glenn v Peters and sayone makes a bigger impact then another. The chain is not affected by the strongest as much as it is the weakest. An all pro Lg OC and RG are nothing with poor OTs. See Miami

I will say, when Manuel had his really awful games (Jets #1, Steelers, Bucs) the O-line (left side primarily) had major difficulties with protection...to me, he played decently in all of his other starts. I know, it is not an earth-shaking revelation that a rookie QB will do better when he is not under pressure, but I think it was particularly eveident with EJ.

You've lost me...I'm not sure what point you're trying to make.
