I've got to go with shitbird on this one. As it stands, it's a hash of bad ideas, ill-considered. If it were truly ideology-driven, it would be a much more socialist program.

Oh sure, now you're going to be one of gator's minions. :w00t:

YOU HAVE TO PASS IT BEFORE YOU CAN… OH: Schumer ripped Obamacare replacement before he read it. .... :D

Two GOP senators say Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has dismissed their Obamacare replacement bill before he ever had a chance to read it.

Sens. Susan Collins of Maine and Bill Cassidy of Louisiana said on CNN Tuesday that Schumer’s criticism of their plan to turn over healthcare policy to the states shows that the minority leader is making a partisan stand instead of trying to find a solution.

“He’s trying to keep his party in line, he’s trying to enforce partisanship,” Cassidy said. “We’re not about partisanship.”

Has Cassidy never heard the parable of the frog and the scorpion?

SECRET TAPES: REPUBLICAN FRET OVER OBAMACARE REPEAL

Wait................there are wishy-washy, weak-kneed, establishment Republicans who are nervous about doing anything ?

Wow !

Good thing I was sitting down........

Yup, they have to figure out how they can still give away coverage to the lower income folks that got it through Obamacare and create a climate where those that buy insurance have more choices and less expensive choices. Not easy which is why I think they should take their time and get input from more true experts.

So you are against repeal without a replacement?

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN DOCTORS ONLY TAKE CASH? Everybody, Especially Patients, Wins.

Time has a great story about bringing basic market forces to medicine. Titled “
,” the article uses the Oklahoma City Surgery Center as a model for a different way of doing business. Co-founded by the outspoken libertarian Keith Smith and Steven Lantier, two anesthesiologists, the center takes no insurance whatsoever. Instead, they take cash only and advertise and guarantee their prices and services. The result is pretty goddamned amazing:

The all-inclusive price for every operation is listed on the website. A rotator-cuff repair for the shoulder costs $8,260. A surgical procedure for carpal tunnel syndrome is $2,750. Setting and casting a basic broken leg: $1,925….

The Surgery Center would charge $19,000 for [patient Art Villa’s] whole-knee replacement, a discount of nearly 50% on what Villa expected to be charged at his local hospital. And that price would include everything from airfare to the organization’s only facility, in Oklahoma City, to medications and physical therapy. If unforeseen complications arose during or after the procedure, the Surgery Center would cover those costs. Villa wouldn’t see another bill.

The savings for Villa’s surgery were so awesome that his company footed the bill. Others are following suit.

Faster please — the insurance-for-everything model has been a disaster.

Going through my insurance paperwork for last year, for tax prep: doctors billed my insurance about $25k. The insurance paid a negotiated $4500 of that $25k. I paid $3800 out of pocket.

So the doctors got paid about a third of what they billed. And I paid about half of that, with a 90/10 PPO with $30 co-pays and a $1000 out-of-pocket "maximum." Something is not right with those numbers.

Makes you wonder how you can cut health care services' costs of you have no idea what those services cost.

CONSUMER CHOICE: Sales Of Short-Term Insurance Plans Could Surge If Health Law Is Relaxed.

After the Affordable Care Act was enacted, some people gravitated toward the short-term plans because they were willing to trade comprehensive coverage for a cheaper sticker price — even if it meant paying a tax penalty for not having the comprehensive coverage required in the law. Sales increased sharply.

Now, as Republicans look for ways to loosen the health law’s coverage requirements and explore the possibility of not enforcing the requirement that people have health insurance, sales of short-term plans may be poised to grow even more. If that happens, consumer advocates say it could be bad for consumers.

And what do these “advocates” say is so bad for consumers?

As the policies’ name suggests, short-term plans provide coverage for a limited period, often six months or less. They generally don’t cover such things as pre-existing conditions, maternity services or prescription drugs. The policies typically have maximum coverage limits of about $1 million.

In short, the same kind of plans consumers were so crazy about that ObamaCare had to mandate them.

Leave it to the experts to tell people what they really want.
