The Affordable Care Act II - Because Mr. Obama Loves You All

Why didn't you answer the question?

It's a pointless question that you really do not want the answer to.

Healthcare is a winning issue for Dems. Trump has nothing to offer but regression on the issue. He literally wants to take health insurance away from tens of millions of people. Evil.

Did those people not have "care" prior to Obamacare?

Yes. Better insurance that was less expensive.

In NYS, we were "winners" for the first year as prices went down (NY and NJ went down a bit across the board year one, all other states had rises in health insurance costs). However, I could no longer buy the same insurance I had prior to Obamacare. It just didn't exist. It was considered to be a "Cadillac" policy, so poof! gone!

Since Obamacare, I've only had the same policy once (for a two year period). Every other stinking year it has been a cluster***** of getting new insurance as the health insurance industry has played around with what is profitable for them, and what is not.  We now pay more for health insurance than many people make in a year.  That one year decrease was absolutely not worth it as we now pay exponentially more than we did prior to Obamacare... for crappier insurance.

The he supplemental Part B is bought from a private carrier. The basic part of Part B is a government plan that pays for Dr visits and a few other things. It has a deductible. The basic Part B premium is at a minimum $134 which they take out of your SS check each month. Then, on top of that you can get a private policy to cover some of what Medicare Part B doesn’t cover.

The part B premium can be more, dependent on age. And those under 65 also pay for part A I believe

Morning SoCal,

Ok. In practice, if the courts strike down Obamacare, it will mean millions will lose care, through the loss of insurance. Trump is totally lying when he says he wants to replace it.

As others have said, they’ll lose insurance...not care. The system is a mess! Too many middle men in between who’s paying and what they’re paying for. It’s one of the reasons the costs are so high. The trick will be shortening the distance between the health care provider and the customer. (Government programs often have the opposite result.)

Losing insurance IS losing care.

I sure wish GOP politicians would try these arguments on people.

It’s actually not losing health care. It’s vocabulary that gets all of this so messed up.

If they don't have the insurance they can't go to the doc for many many things. All those poor people in the red states know what I mean. Those mean states said screw you to the poor.

That’s simply not true. People without insurance go to the doctor all the time. The costs are buried in the system.

Health care starts at home with the individual being responsible for their own health.  Beyond that, if people want to buy insurance for when they need medical treatment, they should have the opportunity to buy that and they should be able to choose with great variety what they want to cover or not.  We should not have some providers for some patients paying 10% of list price while others pay 40% of the list price for the same service.

Government over decades contributed significantly to the mess we have now.  Obamacare contributed to the mess.  Only in minds like yours will government make this better.   Our federal government doesn't manage any entitlements fiscally well.

To even begin making health insurance more affordable, we need to look closely at all the reasons it's so expensive.  Only then can we make changes that will be beneficial.

ideally you want some kind of funding for catastrophic coverage for people who do not have private coverage, for various reasons, people should not die from treatable cancers and heart ailments just because they are poor

but that's not remotely what the fake Dem concerns are about

the Dems faking that they give a rip at all about poor people is the problem, they don't care about anyone but themselves and their cronies grabbing power and depleting pension funds

You get a bill and you pay for it.  What's wrong here is we charge different patients different amounts to fix the broken leg.  If the list price is $10,000 for the service, Medicaid pays the provider about $500.  If it's a Medicare patient the provider might get $1,500.  If you have good insurance, that might pay the provider $3,500.  Also if you have the right kind of good insurance you might have a health savings account to pay any deductible.  If you have no insurance you might get a bill for $10,000 and have no idea what it was going to cost in advance and also no idea that the Medicaid person got their leg fixed for $500.  Also if you have no health insurance you are not permitted by law to have a health savings account.

See how ***** up this is over here?

If you're not able to pay for it then it goes to collection like any other debt.

from each according to his ability, to each according to his need

that will be the US motto after the Dems take over, just for the sake of change, in 2024

they'll fix it all on this basis

Not really hearing this much anymore from Republicans. They seem afraid to even talk about gutting care for the poor. Strange

Politicians on both sides of the aisle are not subject matter experts on many of the important things they try to govern.

That's true, that's why they hire people who are experts. The Republicans just st don't care, they dont want to make health care affordable, accessable or better. They just want to save their wealthy donors money.
