Grondre Reed Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 All im asking is for you to ask yourself afew questions... 1. Do you consider EJ (or Thad) to be better than FITZ? 2. Do you consider SJ, TJ-year 2, woods and goodwin to be better than SJ, TJ-rookie, don jones and dave nelson? 3. Do you believe that our offense kept us in the games we were in last year, while our defense kept us in the games we were in this year? take a look at the stats...its kind of disturbing.
BringBackFergy Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 I am 60% on board with your premise (I.e. last year's offense + this year's defense = playoffs) but then I remember the Niners game and the Seahawks debacle (along with other 2012 offensive mishaps as usual) and shake my head for the other 40%.
Buffalo Barbarian Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 QBs an WRs were very inexperienced is the problem.
Hazed and Amuzed Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Again, Gaileys offense was bad his first year in Buffalo. In fact Hacketts offense put up better numbers with a rookie QB and inexperienced WRs in his first year than Gailey. It's not so disturbing at all, I think you could consider that stat encouraging.
swnybillsfan Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 QBs an WRs were very inexperienced is the problem. injuries at qb and wr did not help much either, and then there was that pesky lg position...
....lybob Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 injuries at qb and wr did not help much either, and then there was that pesky lg position... add rb to the injury list neither CJ or Fred were a 100% for most of the year
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 With a rookie QB who missed close to half the year and a rookie backup up, a weaker O-line though was more healthly than the prior year. So no not all that worried. Was Fitz better than EJ yes, but EJ has more upside, admittedly much of it's unknown.

No. If we only look at 2012 Fitz, it's close, because Fitz dropped off a lot in 2012. But even then, 2013 Manuel was worse than 2012 Fitz. Lewis was arguably as good or a little better. 2. Given that Stevie missed a bunch of games this year, and wasn't healthier than last year when he *did* play, this is closer than you might think. Goodwin also missed a bunch of time. But overall, I'll give a slight edge to 2013 over 2012. 3. No, I don't. Our defense was maddeningly inconsistent all year, whether it be giving up 3rd down conversions, ill-timed penalties, or backbreaking late scores. Our offense last year was straight-up bad, but capable of occasionally putting up a decent score. Our 2011 offense was half-decent though, and that's mostly because Fitz played a lot better that year.
GA BILLS FAN Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Offense took step back, in theory to take two steps forward in 2014. Fitz was at his ceiling, in theory, EJ's ceiling is much higher, same for Woods/Goodwin vs. Nelson/Jones. You need to also consider O-line, where Brown/Legursky is significantly worse than Levite as well as Spiller 2013 being worse than Spiller 2012. If you judge on 2013 vs. 2012, the offense is worse, no doubt. What you are betting on is that 2014 will be much better. My biggest concern is EJ. I don't think we saw enough to suggest he'll be a more consistent passer and better decision maker to elevate his game past Fitz. If he does, (BIG IF) and if Bills address LG (smaller if), the offense will be better in 2014 than 2012.
3rdand12 Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 what appears as regression was really a fact finding mission
Charles Romes Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 You need to factor in that fitz' performance tends to decline.the more important the situation is.
Kemp2Warlick Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Bills Chick @Bills_Chick33m Doug Marrone's #Bills outperformed all of Gailey's teams when it came to DVOA. He is the best coach since Jauron in 2006.
The Big Cat Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 There's still somebody out there that doesn't think Fitz was better than the QB's we trotted out there this year, huh? Well alright.
GA BILLS FAN Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Thad reminds me a lot of Fitz -- smart, gunslinger mentality, careless with the ball, inconsistent with limited upside -- so, I'd say Thad and Fitz are comparable ---- EJ has potential to be better than Fitz by a long shot -- he wasn't this year, but could be ---

GA BILLS FAN Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Thad reminds me of Favre. Your shooting a bit high on that one ! . . . . Thad is to Favre like hamburger is to filet mignon --- both beef, but hardly the same ---

FireChan Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Your shooting a bit high on that one ! . . . . Thad is to Favre like hamburger is to filet mignon --- both beef, but hardly the same --- Favre and Thad have a lot of similarities. Except for this mysterious "upside."
