LancasterSteve Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 http://www.nydailyne...ticle-1.1566379 Three very lucky people. I think something like this also happened on Chicago's drive along the waterfront a year or two ago. I don't believe anyone was hurt in that landing either.
KD in CA Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Lucky for them it was a Saturday but still, landing a plane on the Major Deegan? That is some damn impressive piloting.
JÂy RÛßeÒ Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Lucky for them it was a Saturday but still, landing a plane on the Major Deegan? That is some damn impressive piloting. Contrary to popular belief, that was not me.
The Poojer Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Major Deegan always makes me laugh...sounds like a euphemism for a boner. And I thought 'Rosen' was another term for a major FUBAR. This was a great save...let's not give the panda man too much love here.
KD in CA Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Contrary to popular belief, that was not me. Well obviously.....it was a controlled landing, not a crash.
Marv's Neighbor Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 The guy was a Student Pilot and very lucky! That maybe explains the crunched landing gear. Hope he has a bunch of "renters" insurance!. He had 2 on others on board. When I was learning to fly, about the time when that airplane was new, you couldn't fly with passengers till you actually had your Private License.
Beerball Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Looks like hell hath no fury http://gothamist.com/2014/01/05/wife_of_pilot_who_landed_on_bronx_e.php
The Poojer Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 oh my! Looks like hell hath no fury http://gothamist.com..._on_bronx_e.php
DDD Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Not sure what is more dangerous, landing a powerless plane on an expressway or being in the Bronx near St. Barnabus?
eSJayDee Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 The guy was a Student Pilot and very lucky Actually, my assumption is that is incorrect. IIRC (it's been a few days since I read the article) FAA rcds indicate that he was a student pilot as of April '13. I cannot adequately convey how implausibly inept the aeromedical dept of the FAA is. I assume he was licensed sometime after that (possibly, shortly thereafter, again, I'd believe it could take >8 months for them to update their rcds). (Or possibly, the reporter has his facts wrong.) Student pilots are not permitted to carry passengers, so the Pilot In Command would need to be a fully licensed pilot.
