You can be a great QB and not known as a deep ball QB. Montana and any other West Coast O QB relied heavily short and intermediate slants, drags, and zone flood rollouts. Edwards was looking very capable in a wide and conservative system. However, he was gunshy after multiple concussions between the Arizona and San Diego games.

Joe Montana...lol.

Trent just couldn't make the throw. He wasn't making the long or deep intermediate throw even when he was having success. Montana was able to throw the deep ball and he would throw it when teams didn't respect it. Trent has a throwing motion without any hip rotation.......much of the power generated by QB's comes from the core.....which he does not use. He throws essentially all arm. Teams just started squatting on the short throws and challenging him throw over the top.

RJ and JP also passed through Oakland before fading out of the league for good.

Kind of like Matt Leinart and Billy Joe Hobert here.

Maybe Oakland is looking to Trent to provide the same kind of mentorship to Pyror and McGloin and whoever else that he provided to Nick Foles last year in Philadelphia?
