CardinalScotts Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Bears also signed Tim Jennings and Matt Slauson. Phil Emery means business WRT keeping his good players. Hello OBD!! so they are keeping a 30 year old corner on a horrible defense and a dime a dozen lineman on a brutal offensive line
26CornerBlitz Posted January 2, 2014 Author Posted January 2, 2014 (edited) Disagree. Look no further than the Bills. You cannot win without a good QB. I think we can all agree on that, but drafting a QB in the 1st round every year until you hit is not any kind of practical way to build a team. Edited January 2, 2014 by 26CornerBlitz
K-9 Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Would it not behoove one to consider the sources? Consider me behooved! GO BILLS!!!
NoSaint Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Yet it wasn't enough to carry Cutler who's defenses and special teams were were ranked number 1 followed by years where they were top 4. and yet, hes made it to a tightly contested NFC championship game... indications are hes "good enough to get there"
BuffaloBillsForever Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 and yet, hes made it to a tightly contested NFC championship game... indications are hes "good enough to get there" ...like a Mark Sanchez...
26CornerBlitz Posted January 2, 2014 Author Posted January 2, 2014 so they are keeping a 30 year old corner on a horrible defense and a dime a dozen lineman on a brutal offensive line They're retaining good players. Maybe you think a team gets better by letting good players walk.
Mike in Syracuse Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 I could be wrong but i think Cutler and EJ have the exact same number of playoff wins???
Fan in Chicago Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 and yet, hes made it to a tightly contested NFC championship game... indications are hes "good enough to get there" 1-8 versus Packers. Thats all I have to say.
FireChan Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 I could be wrong but i think Cutler and EJ have the exact same number of playoff wins??? You are. Wrong that is.
NoSaint Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 1-8 versus Packers. Thats all I have to say. not saying hes great, was simply replying to someone that implied he wasnt good enough to get to the big game. with the right team, he obviously is - but that doesnt mean im wearing a cutler jersey around town.

Fair enough. At risk sounding like a broken record - a lot was invested for and around him on the O. Yet he has under-performed. 4th down with the game on the line, most would choose Rodgers over Cutler as their QB. And until he starts winning against a good division rival, he will be fighting for a Wild Card spot always instead of being in control of the division. Depending on how much they are paying him (possibly a front end loaded $17 MM per year), the Bears have locked their own fate for the forseeable future

They are in a tough spot that many teams find themselves in: not having a qb that can carry a team 100% on his own, but having one that is good enough that it's hard to feel confident the next guy would be as good as him yet alone better. I think they are both a little closer to the packers than the past record indicates, and it would be a bit harder to find a replacement... Otherwise were probably not terribly far off on our opinions.
jjmac Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Helps when you have players that agree to what you're offering. GO BILLS!!! Also helps to have good players to give offers to.

I always thought the superbowl is the "big game". Fair enough. At risk sounding like a broken record - a lot was invested for and around him on the O. If Cutler couldn't do it with the teams he has had so far, it ain't happening now.
NoSaint Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 I always thought the superbowl is the "big game". clearly losing the nfc championship game by 7 after he was injured indicates it would be totally impossible for a cutler led team to get there.
BuffaloBillsForever Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 clearly losing the nfc championship game by 7 after he was injured indicates it would be totally impossible for a cutler led team to get there. How often are there two elite units on a team for more than a year? 2 years, 3 years, 4 years? One NFC championship is a poor track record for those teams. I guess you will want the Bills to sign Mark Sanchez when the Jets cut him this offseason?
keepthefaith Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 so they are keeping a 30 year old corner on a horrible defense and a dime a dozen lineman on a brutal offensive line You're a year behind on the O-line comment. They replaced most of their starters from 2012 and have a good and improving O-line. 2 rookies started this year and played well. Their offensive stats improved a lot this year. The O-line has to get some credit for that. Jennings is a very good corner. Bears had a lot of injuries on D this year.
HurlyBurly51 Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Ouch! @mikefreemanNFL The Packers have sent the Bears some champagne congratulating them on the Cutler extension. Yes that was Cutler who bit and let the receiver fly right by him on 4th down with 48 seconds left.
Bill from NYC Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 I am sorry to see that he re-signed. This could cause one team in front of us to draft a qb in round 1. Even if we choose not to do so, it will not help us in terms of value if they are looking to trade down.
