26CornerBlitz Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 (edited) @JayGlazer The Bucs are hiring Lovie Smith to be their new head coach, two sides are finalizing the contract tonight. @mortreport As expected, Bucs reach deal w Jeff Tedford as OC. thebandit27 Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 I was just about to post this...nice work. Not surprising given his ties to the team...next step is bringing back Rich McKay to run the front office.
outsidethebox Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 I think its a good hire. I always liked Lovie Smith.
Bangarang Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 That was a quick hire. I guess this means the Buccs will have a solid defense but poor offense as per Lovie's usual coaching accommodations?
26CornerBlitz Posted January 2, 2014 Author Posted January 2, 2014 I think its a good hire. I always liked Lovie Smith. I think the Bears blew it by letting him go. He'll do well in Tampa with the right OC.
thebandit27 Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Grab chan gailey for OC. Seriously. PFT reported that he's got a handshake agreement to hire Cal's Jeff Tedford as his OC
Gerry Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Grab chan gailey for OC. Seriously. Agree-that's his real niche.
NoSaint Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Bringing the Tampa two back to Tampa. Has the defensive line talent to do good stuff there.
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 PFT reported that he's got a handshake agreement to hire Cal's Jeff Tedford as his OC Geez-- what a risky move. Tedford has no pro experience. I also never understood his rep as a QB guru too. Other than Aaron Rodgers, he hasn't really had any QB successes.
26CornerBlitz Posted January 2, 2014 Author Posted January 2, 2014 @JasonLaCanfora Some rumblings around the league former Bears GM Jerry Angelo - a former Buc exec as well - might be a part of Team Lovie in Tampa
Max997 Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 (edited) Big surprise Tony Dungy loves the hire and is now excited about watching the Bucs next year Lovie will help get the Bucs competitive again but not much more then that Edited January 2, 2014 by Max997
C.Biscuit97 Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Big surprise Tony Dungy loves the hire and is now excited about watching the Bucs next year Lovie will help get the Bucs competitive again but not much more then that He took Rex Grossman to the SB & got fired after going 10-6. He's a damn good coach but I guess he doesn't yell so he's not really that good.
26CornerBlitz Posted January 2, 2014 Author Posted January 2, 2014 @RapSheet Some names to watch for personnel men joining Lovie Smith in TB: Jerry Angelo, Tim Ruskell (Titans), Chris Ballard (KC), Morocco Brown (DC)
LancasterSteve Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 I think its a good hire. I always liked Lovie Smith. +1
Mark Vader Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 (edited) I think the Bears blew it by letting him go. He'll do well in Tampa with the right OC. Smith got screwed by the Bears. Granted the offense he had was ugly, but they were a good team and he got them to a Super Bowl. Contrast that to a coach like Marvin Lewis. Who in 11 years as head coach with the Bengals has an overall record of 90-85-1, and a playoff record of 0-4. How is this guy still head coach there? Edited January 2, 2014 by Mark Vader

Because the Bengals were maybe the worst franchise before Lewis got there. Both him & smith are really good coaches.
BuffaloBillsForever Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Grab chan gailey for OC. Seriously. Lovie Smith is a good hire as HC and your suggestion seriously makes a lot of sense! Those two would be a good match.
Mark Vader Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Because the Bengals were maybe the worst franchise before Lewis got there. Both him & smith are really good coaches. Lewis is adequate. Would you be satisfied with an 11 year head coach and no playoff wins? I wouldn't.

Other than Aaron Rodgers, he hasn't really had any QB successes. And in fact Rodgers has talked about how Mike McCarthy extensively revamped his mechanics to make him a better thrower.
