If they are going to do this, then they should go back and review every single pass from Brees' record season, too. Manning would've stayed in the game had the call been made right in the first place. Unfortunately, it wasn't and it's going to cost Manning history. Extreme asterisk on this record.
disco Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 I actually thought when he broke the record by a yard he was cutting it close given how they do change official yardage post game. It's a little lame if they take the record back, but given the 5,000+ yard passers now it doesn't seem like a record that would stay around for very long anyways. I mean, assuming healthy he'll probably have a good chance to break it himself next year.

Well he threw the ball so it should count . Seriously though I agree Manning should get the record, NFL needs to "just give it to him" like they have done in time past.
SBUffalo Posted January 1, 2014 Author Posted January 1, 2014 That record will fall quick anyway. Doubt it. Unless it falls in the next few years. The years of huge passing yardage will slowly fall as the NFL goes towards the new hybrid QBs. They don't have the arms that guys like Manning, Brees and Stafford have. They also take away the passing attempts with more rushes.
Quester74 Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 I wouldn't worry if I was Peyton.. if the NFL had any idea what a lateral looked like, the Bills would have had a playoff victory in '99 and Rob Johnson would be remembered as a hero.

You do realize that there are reviews and adjustments to stats made weekly as a standard so NOT changing this would be the weird/non-standard approach by the nfl. Brees was subject to stat corrections the whole year too.
DC Tom Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 I would think they review all the games to get the stat lines correct, and occasionally make changes. And this would probably be routine if it were any other play without such high visibility.

And this would probably be routine if it were any other play without such high visibility. and now that it is highly publicized the NFL will likely not change it. If this was a Tannehill pass in a game against St. Louis we'd have never heard about it or known, even if we were fans of either team. http://blogs.buffalo...-up-a-sack.html From this year, Sept 2013. Spiller was erroneously given credit for a 12-yard reception with 1:28 left in the first half. The play was to Fred Jackson, changing his stat line to five catches for 35 yards. Spiller's stat line should now read three catches for 14 yards. ... The NFL also reviewed the season opener against the New England Patriots and switched a Tom Brady run for minus-4 yards into a sack shared by Marcell Dareus and Jerry Hughes. NoSaint Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 @SInow NFL: Peyton Manning keeps passing yards record http://on.si.com/KjDD4V Calling it inconclusive is silly. Manning obviously would've gotten the record but in this case, he simply didnt. It was a gaffe by the broncos not to give him one more series if they wanted to seal it. The nfl is pulling a "just give it to him" and that irks me as minor as it is, and as deserving as manning is.

Sounds like NFL First Family Favoritism: http://www.usatoday....record/4271035/ Elias Sports Bureau, the NFL's official statistician, has decided that the "fairest resolution" to a dispute about a 7-yard completion to Eric Decker in Sunday's win against Oakland was to consider the play as a forward pass, as was initially ruled by the Raiders' stats crew, and not a lateral, which would be considered a rush for Decker. Corp000085 Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Who hasn't won or lost a fantasy game on a stat correction? Exactly. I lost a friggin championship on a stat correction once.

Brees was subject to stat corrections the whole year too. Yes, I do. But they only closely review if there is something brought to their attention or they notice it themselves. There is no doubt that there are quite a few misses since they don't appear to be anything out of the ordinary as games happen. The fact of the matter is that the NFL is going to screw him out of the record. If the refs hadn't blown the call then he would've stayed in and got the record officially. @SInow NFL: Peyton Manning keeps passing yards record http://on.si.com/KjDD4V Calling it inconclusive is silly. No reason to get a record you already have.
4merper4mer Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Exactly. I lost a friggin championship on a stat correction once. Rob Johnson lost one on a failure to make a stat correction.
Max997 Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 If Manning was worried that much about the record why not get more then one yard just in case something like this happens
