JM57 Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 (edited) The handling of this situation, to me, will be one of the biggest ways to evaluate Marrone this offseason. How committed is he to discipline and winning football games? Because the ONLY good thing about Crossman's units was the FG team. Can he fire a friend he has known for 20 years? The punters were both bad. Punt coverage was abysmal. Kickoff coverage was, at times also abysmal. Kick return and punt return games were non-existent and the units as a whole seemed to be good for at least 2 penalties a week. I can't remember the ST units ever being so terrible. TC in St. Louis Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 You saw it. Wtf? Touchdown, followed by 82 yard return. Minutes later td followed by 60 plus. Offside on field goal. Whoever that guy/girl is must go.
C.Biscuit97 Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Agree 100%. McKelvin led the NFL in PR and was a non factor all year. The coverage units were crap. This was by far the worst unit on the team & the guy has a shaky track record to begin with. Hire a legit STs coach.
RuntheDamnBall Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Special needs specialists are usually highly trained in their field and help bring people in disadvantaged situations to success. Crossman has been historically terrible in his field and turns good athletes into traffic cones.
QCity Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Because the ONLY good thing about Crossman's units was the FG team. The only only good thing about Crossman's FG team was Carpenter, and I don't even know if it was his call to bring him in (probably not).
BuffaloBillsForever Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Crossmam ran the worst special teams in the NFL prior to be hired by the Bills. These results should be of no surprise.
NewEra Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 He needs to be fired. If he's not, our FO is really making a mistake.
dezertbill Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 ST is the only serious issue I have with this team. Crossman's ST are horrible. He needs to go in my mind.
swnybillsfan Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 in crossman's defense, i don't recall seeing him on the field whiffing badly trying to tackle the diminutive blount. but yes, i think the special teams have been pretty awful this year.

I think accountability demands a change be made. It was one thing to hire him with his dismal track record.......but to retain him after a very poor season here would indicate a less than full commitment to winning on Marrone's part.

Diminutive!?!!? I don't think that word means what you think it means
BillsVet Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Maybe Russ will demand the HC fire ST coach. If he refuses, then perhaps they'll fire the HC and then sue him for breach of contract. Ah, the good old days when Buffalo could go .500.
CSBill Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 (edited) If he (Grossman) does't go, Marrone will lose the respect of his players. He preaches accountability, and that cuts both ways, players and caches alike. I don't think its a stretch to say this ST cost the Bills at least two games this season (Cin, Cleve, and killed them again today). in crossman's defense, i don't recall seeing him on the field whiffing badly trying to tackle the diminutive blount. but yes, i think the special teams have been pretty awful this year. can someone that weighs 255 lbs. be called "diminutive" ? BmarvB Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 I cam remember when they were worse than this, when Wade Phillips hired his buddy Ronnie Jones. Crossman is #2 behind him. Send him on his way.
swnybillsfan Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Diminutive!?!!? I don't think that word means what you think it means so then clearly i cannot choose the wine in front of me!
Big Turk Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 I have no real thought on how Crossman keeps his job...coming into the NE game, the only unit that was preforming better than bottom 5 in the NFL was our kick coverage, which was ranked 8th in the NFL, then promptly gets smoked twice in a row after long TD drives by Bills where we are trying to claw back into the game, and let NE already start in FG range... Crossman has got to get the boot, he is bad...
bigK14094 Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 I cam remember when they were worse than this, when Wade Phillips hired his buddy Ronnie Jones. Crossman is #2 behind him. Send him on his way. Lots of parallels here, Marrone hired his gumba......not the best qualified man....who might have been the guy we had, Bruce DeHaven.
jumbalaya Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Crossman is perfect for this team as he deflects a lot of the attention away from other poor coaching and front office decisions.
D. L. Hot-Flamethrower Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 This guy has got to go! Special teams cost us games this year, that cannot happen. He had a poor track record to start with.
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 He is not going anywhere. Don't you guys remember when we had bad ST before? This is what will happen. 1) marrone will say he will personally be more involved in ST 2) the bills will then say that they will change some scheme things 3) they will then devote more starters to ST unit 4) finally, after another year or two of this, someone in the FO will force marrone's hand and he will fire crossman. That's always how it goes with these ST coaches.
