Kevin
This reminded me of that old Johnny Coli blog, where he told the story of working in a liquor store during the holidays and throwing in a page of gay porn with each gift basket shipment. That blog was pure gold. That'd be hilarious!
Jon in Pasadena
What's a bonus? I may get a promotion that comes with a 10% raise this month though. If that actually comes through, I'll consider it a bonus this year. Good luck on the promo/raise. That's exactly what I got last month. Oh yeah, and then the company's reaction to Obamacare kicked in and my health insurance premiums went up by 50%. Yay, bonus. I got informed that I have to take a pay cut next year. It's to my benefit, because it makes the company more competitive. So I'm looking forward to it. By any chance does your boss have pointy hair? Johnny Hammersticks
School district employee here. A few years back one of my principals gave me a fancy pen. Sometimes parents of children I work with will give me a card and/or a small gift card to Starbucks or some place like that. When I used to work in a really affluent area of Charlotte, NC the parents gave really nice gifts. One parent, a restaurant owner in the area, gave each staff member a $50 gift card to his restaurant. Former Panthers WR, Muhsin Muhammed, had 3 kids that went to my school. He didn't even know me, but he gave me and the school counselor both a $50 gift card to the Panthers' stadium store. Other that that, I get nearly 2 weeks of paid vacation!! I can't complain. Lt. Dan's Revenge
He just let him live. That was a pretty thoughtful present. Although the Carruth situation was obviously horrible, this made me laugh.

shrader
Ahhh...the gift that keeps on giving for years and years. Nope, they didn't give me the promotion. Instead I got a "$2500 special achievement award". I'm sure they made this thing up right on the spot to temporarily keep my happy, but I guess I'll call it a Christmas bonus. Maybe once the annual reviews come up in June they can reject this promotion for the 3rd time.
billsfanmiami(oh)
I work for a smaller closely held corporation that's family owned. It's a very demanding job with extensive travel for about 8 months a year often working anywhere between 50-75 hrs a week. Usually it entails being on the road 2,3, and sometimes 4 weeks at a time with maybe some weekends at home between. It's tough, but we get significant year end / Xmas bonuses. It basically ends up being your "performance review" for the year. I think my bonus this year was 50X what I got my first year (7 years ago). We also have all week off next week and had a really nice Xmas party a couple weeks ago at a nice restaurant. Every year is tough and there is many times throughout the year I have to remind myself of how it feels when that check hits. Like every job there's pros and cons but I'm very thankful to have one that helps my wife and I to do the things we enjoy doing when we're not working, and will keep providing a good foundation for future children. ExiledInIllinois
Just so ya know, those are called "spot" bonuses in the HR/ Comp world. In Civilian Army, we call them OTS... Yet, not nearly as much as shrader's 2500 bucks: "On the Spot Cash Award - OTS The On-the-Spot Cash Award (OTS) is a small Special Act or Service Award ($50 to $500) which may be given by a supervisor for the day to day accomplishments of subordinate employees. DA Form 1256 is used to nominate and approve the OTS. Eligibility: All Army civilian employees paid from appropriated funds and direct hire foreign national are eligible for consideration. Criteria: This award may be used to recognize employees for superior accomplishments" ...Like the time we saved a guy from drowning or a deckhand getting crushed from 9,000 tons of barges or saving a $100,000 of damage by cacthing a failed part in in time. ...Yeah right! LoL ... I think they should raise the $500 limit.
BillsFan-4-Ever
Got a $50.00 gift card, and while I was using it I ran into Mike Shananhan at a Target store in Leesburg with his grand kids. I heard the voice and looked left and there he was. Just said hey coach happy holidays.
