Boeing looking for a place to build their new 777X plant

'The contest unfolded in a mere matter of weeks after a machinists' union in Washington state rejected Boeing's proposed contract for the 777X because it would have replaced their traditional pension with a defined-contribution savings plan. The Chicago-based company said it would look elsewhere and gave states until Tuesday to submit proposals. Winners will be announced early next year.'

'The Boeing buzz has been loudest in Missouri, where Gov. Jay Nixon immediately convened a special legislative session to approve an incentive package valued at up to $1.7 billion over more than two decades.'

'This time, Gov. Robert Bentley is stressing more than just financial incentives. He's tapping into Boeing's recent union frustrations by highlighting that Alabama is a "right-to-work" state, where union fees cannot be a condition of employment.'

This happened a few years ago with the 787. The NLRB dictated that moving production to a right-to-work state was union busting, hence illegal, and Boeing was forced to keep manufacturing in Seattle and not move to South Carolina.

No reason not to expect the same will happen again.

I agree ... However, Boeing was swimming against the very strong tide created of its own doing and a very labor friendly NLRB. Everyone would be well served to have a fair and focused decision on the issues. Boeing should not be beholden to only keeping its facilities in the state of Washington. At the same time Boeing needs to play within the rules and political biases that influence the labor status of their workforce.

It will be interesting to see where this goes.

Yup....thanks once again to the mindless greed of labor union thugs.

Oh? I thought you Libertarian nut bags would be complaining about the "economic incentives" the other states were going to hand over to this private corporation so they can screw their workers.

Why would anyone complain about tax credits, or preferential tax rates? Especially in a state they don't live in?

I'm growing increasingly convinced that you don't understand the first thing about libertarianism. Also, I thought we were all Republicans? You're getting your DailyKOS memes mixed up.

Preferential? That sounds like the government picking winners and losers...

Perhaps to a blowhard who lacks the ability to think critically, and says the first thing to pop into his fool head without examining actual timelines or facts, and doesn't begin to comprehend the political philosophy he's chirping about. Sure.

gatorman you don't understand - if the government says hey we think your technology is a breakthrough what do you need to make it happen - that's the government picking winners and losers - if a corporation goes to the government and says give us XY and Z or we will move our operations to China - that's just market forces ...............TYTT hates a proactive government looking to improve the common good but he loves government that can be easily bullied and extorted by corporations.

Common good? Organized crime/labor and the politicians they've bribed ganging up to extort money from businesses doesn't improve the common good.

It really sucks when freedom applies to people who run businesses.

I think TYTT is a really confused person. Hate Mandella, thinks the Confederacy's fight in Civil War was about freedom, loves market forces, hates market forces....

Really? What about if they open this at PTI or Charlotte Douglas and give thousands of needful people here a job? We'll get the shaft again?

Yup! Setting the workers against one another. Taking from one and redistributing to another. Hmmmm....

Businesses organize and bribe politicians more than workers do. You are a complete idiot. KD=turd

Nothing more amusing on this board than the ignorant/angry liberal of the moment (connor, molson, etc) getting all fired up!

Oh, no! Setting "the workers" against each other!!
