meazza Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Is this draw totally random or do they pick one of a group or the strongest teams, one out of the next strongest, etc.? It is based on ranking.
4merper4mer Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 It is based on ranking. LOL good one. Then how did Cote d'Ivoire get ranked without even existing?
linksfiend Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 LOL good one. Then how did Cote d'Ivoire get ranked without even existing? Huh? Why doesn't the Ivory Coast exist? Is this draw totally random or do they pick one of a group or the strongest teams, one out of the next strongest, etc.? Section 3) discusses how the draw was done this year http://soccer.si.com/2013/12/02/rethinking-world-cup-draw-seeding/ I was pretty bummed yesterday but after a day to think about it, the group isn't as bad as initially thought. I take nothing away from Ghana, they are a good team but they are a team the US should beat. Much of their WC pedigree has come because they beat the US twice to advance further. In 2006 (at a game I was at in Nuremburg), Ghana was gifted a penalty to win 2-1. It was an even match. In 2010, the US was extremely unlucky not to win. Despite poor player selection and tactics by Bob Bradley, the US was the better team and could have easily won had they capitalized on numerous great opportunities. Portugal is a slightly better Mexico. They can easily be frustrated and when they do they lose their minds. Germany is class. If we played them on match day one, it would get ugly but on matchday three, they will likely be secured through. If so, it gives the US a better chance to get a point or three if the stars align. All in all, it's 50/50 on advancing which I'd take. If they were in Group B, I'd say the chances would be 15%. My recollection was that we were better at ball control and passing in both 2006 and 2010. So we were the more "skilled" team. However Ghana was faster and taller. They killed us in the aerial game and on speed to open balls, deflections, etc.
meazza Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Huh? Why doesn't the Ivory Coast exist? Because it's in french lol
NFL95MelGrayDomination Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 We can advance but will need to keep the loss vs Germany respectable. We will advance going 1-1-1 or better on goal differential.
4merper4mer Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 (edited) Huh? Why doesn't the Ivory Coast exist? Ohhhhh. Why isn't their name in English like everyone else's? I mean they didn't name Korea with a bunch of funny looking symbols. How about Espana? Or Nippon? Or Brasil? Isn't Cameroon a type of cookie? Edited December 9, 2013 by 4merper4mer

Canadian Bills Fan Posted December 10, 2013 Author Posted December 10, 2013 I just can't see Ghana or USA beating or tying vs Portugal. Ronaldo on his own is a wrecking ball. My family is from Portugal and I follow the team closely and I must say that the USA scares me. Yes we have Ronaldo but he is hot and cold when it comes to national games. He can be invisible or a dominant force. Unfortunately you never know from one game to the next
bbb Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 You don't even know what Ronaldo is going to show up. How many of those frickin' guys are there? One of the 800 rule changes I would make to soccer is you have to use last names.

LewPort71 Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 The one that scores 3-4 goals a game and banged Kim Kardashian. That's a lot of scoring.
Cugalabanza Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 (edited) That's a lot of scoring. He is on a pretty sick run. This year he's scored 17 goals in 14 games for Real Madrid in La Liga. 9 goals in 5 Champions League games. 10 goals in 9 games for the Portugal national team. And this is the girl he's nailing currently: http://www.freefever...y-wallpaper.jpg She's almost as pretty as he is. Edited December 11, 2013 by Cugalabanza
