What you are feeling is a product of the Media Entertainment Industry's 24/7 news cycle, and the Powers that be. Both of which profit from fear. I'll agree that people seem to be losing a sense of reality based values, but senseless murders over trivial things is a staple of human history. We're just hearing about it more.
