DDD Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 (edited) As the holiday season is upon us, what is your favorite holiday movie you would suggest watching? I'm open to any and all suggestions. Mine is a 1970's movie/musical starring Albert Finney called Scrooged. It's based on Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol and is a forgotten classic. I highly recommend this film to put you in the Christmas spirit. What do you suggest TBDers? Edited December 2, 2013 by DDD
BringBackFergy Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 I have a pretty warped sense of humor but "Christmas Vacation", "Elf", and "A Christmas Story" always make me laugh and are traditions in our home (we recite the lines as a family). "It's a Wonderful Life" is a classic obviously. For additional insights...refer to the "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" in the PPP thread.
plenzmd1 Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 While not strictly a Christmas movie, we always watch the Bells of St Marys..seems like a Christmas movie
dib Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 We're No Angels Donovans reef polar express It's a Wonderful Life Muppet Christmas Carol
Canadian Bills Fan Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 (edited) Deck the halls is a good one IMO Polar Express is another great one Edited December 3, 2013 by Canadian Bills Fan
Gugny Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 "It's a Wonderful Life," "Christmas Vacation," and "Polar Express" are all staples in our household. But I LOVE to catch "Scrooged," whenever it's on. Carol Kane gets my Christmas juices flowing ...
Cugalabanza Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I agree with the ones mentioned so far. My daughter Zuzu takes her name from the little girl with the rose petals in It's a Wonderful Life. I haven't seen Polar Express. We'll have to check that one out.
Canadian Bills Fan Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 If you want to watch a tear jerker, watch "The Christmas shoes"

That's not what Beerball told us...he said something about ZuZu from "The Witches of Eastwick"
Cugalabanza Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 That's not what Beerball told us...he said something about ZuZu from "The Witches of Eastwick" Beerball is--I have to be careful here so I don't get banned--Beerball is..."differently minded."
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 If you want to watch a tear jerker, watch "The Christmas shoes" Not sure you knew this, but there are two sequels to that movie, as well. I just found that out, and caught the second one on TV.

dib Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 How could i forget! The Santa Clause. The original is terrific the sequels not so much
Beerball Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I agree with the ones mentioned so far. My daughter Zuzu takes her name from the little girl with the rose petals in It's a Wonderful Life. I haven't seen Polar Express. We'll have to check that one out. Find a copy of the book Polar Express first. Listen to the tape that comes with it as you read the book. Much more magical. Then watch the movie.
Mike In Illinois Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I'll put in a word for an all-time Christmas classic from '88: Die Hard. What more could you want? It has action, adventure, a little blood-letting, romance and even some snow (what do you think Harry Ellis snorts up his nose?). All-around fun for the whole family!
Marv's Neighbor Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Hard to find now but THE BISHOP'S WIFE with David Niven, Loretta Young & Cary Grant is a Classic for me
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Hopefully I won't get mocked for this, but I think "The Holiday" is a very solid Christmas movie (starring Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, Jack Black, Kate Winslett). It also has a great soundtrack by Hans Zimmer.

"It's a Wonderful Life" is a classic obviously. For additional insights...refer to the "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" in the PPP thread. Those first three are my "go to" Christmas movies. I believe Elf, in all honesty, is a modern classic. Cute, great music, fun story. Alot of people don't like Will Farrell so, immediately dismiss Elf, but it deserves a watching. How could i forget! The Santa Clause. The original is terrific the sequels not so much I actually think that Santa Claus 2 (the Mrs. Claus) is as good as the first. The third is crap.
