We have a left-wing Pope!

“Some people continue to defend trickle-down theories which assume that economic growth, encouraged by a free market, will inevitably succeed in bringing about greater justice and inclusiveness in the world,” Francis wrote in the papal statement. “This opinion, which has never been confirmed by the facts, expresses a crude and naive trust in the goodness of those wielding economic power and in the sacralized workings of the prevailing economic system.”

“Meanwhile,” he added, “the excluded are still waiting.”

Ya, crude and naive. He gets it!

Pope Francis takes veiled swipe at ‘progressive’ Democrats

Pope Francis said Tuesday in his first apostolic exhortation that no matter how progressive-minded the world turns, the Catholic Church can never compromise on its “no abortion” rule — it’s a matter of human dignity.

“I want to be completely honest in this regard,” he said, Catholic News Service reported. “This is not something subject to alleged reforms or ‘modernizations.’ It is not ‘progressive’ to try to resolve problems by eliminating a human life.”

The pope’s exhortation seemed only to drive home the point that abortion and the church stand at crossroads.

“Precisely because this involves the internal consistency of our message about the value of the human person, the church cannot be expected to change her position on this question,” Pope Francis said, on abortion, the Catholic News Service reported.

This isn’t the first time the pope has run counter to progressive policies. Just a week ago, on Vatican Radio, he spoke against “adolescent progressivism,” and said believers should keep fast to faith and avoid the pull of the world.

“Today also brings us this desire to be progressive, following a single thought,” he said, days ago on radio.

But when it comes to abortion — progressive thoughts are the enemy, he made clear, in his exhortation.

Sayeth the man who clearly understands neither.

Didn't Jesus say "Render unto Ceasar what is Ceasar's, and in turn he will render unto you free health care?"

Or was that "Render unto Ceasar what is Ceasar's, and render unto the poor the riches of the greedy wealthy bastards?"

Or maybe "Render unto Ceasar everything, because you didn't build that..."

While conservatives like to play the victim card anytime some one says happy holidays instead of merry Christmas they are much more comfortable with the teachings of Ayn Rand than Jesus Christ.

Notfernuthin', but conservatives don't give a crap if you say "happy holidays." They give a crap when you try to make everyone else say it simply because you have some twisted idea that someone is going to get their feelings hurt.

On the upside, the current administration has so damaged the Democrat/liberal/progressive brand, pretty much no one believes what you guys have to say any more.

so the war on Christmas no longer involves sales ads that say "Happy Holidays or Season's Greetings" instead of "Merry Christmas" good to know I'll inform any stragglers

hand-neurofibromatosis.jpg

“Pope Kisses a Man Plagued with Boils”, and that would be bad enough, but I suspect the poor man is really afflicted with neurofibromatosis, also known as Recklinghausen’s disease, which can cause deafness, difficulty walking and sometimes crippling pain.

If it is indeed neurofibromatosis, then it is very possible that this man has been shunned and disregarded for decades. Some people would even look at him and decide that his quality of life is likely so miserable, so socially valueless that it might not be worth living. Pope Francis — like his namesake before him, who famously kissed a leper — thinks differently, and he wants us to think differently, too. Throughout the slideshow you see that more than simply kissing this man, Francis clearly prayed over him.

A kiss is pretty special, true, but laying hands upon that which can repulse us, and allowing them to linger there, and then praying with and for that person — that’s a wholly different, deeper sort of unity. Where they stood may have been very crowded, but in this moment there was a peculiar intimacy of oneness, and the way this challenged man lays his own hand upon Pope Francis’ arm is eloquent of it.

A Pope his laid hands on a sick man, and a sick man laid his hand upon that Pope with a sense of utter trust, safety, familiarity and consolation.

Serious healing is going on here, though it may not be obvious. We believe in things visible and invisible, and healing can be visible or invisible, too. Perhaps what is being healed in this moment is decades of injury — rejection and derision — heaped upon this man from a world obsessed with beauty and perfect fitness, and less so with the soul.

Look at that hand, and how confidently relaxed it is. This man is not clinging to Francis; he is uniting with him.

You have that completely backwards. No one is upset by signs that say "Happy Holidays". People get extremely upset when a sign says "merry christmas", but these people aren't conservatives. Those wacky righties do seem to get perturbed when private business and public entities are sued or forced to remove signs which say "Merry Christmas" or when a christmas tree is deemed offensive because it makes no sense.

Bill O'Rielly exemplifies no one except Bill O'Reilly.

And my mother's boyfriend. Who is nuts.

Considering his viewership and his book sales I'd say he has a pretty good right-wing following - unless it's just all libs wanting to laugh at/get pissed off at

In seriousness...people like hearing they're victims. That's what O'Rielly sells. That's also what Obama sells. That is not a coincidence.

And that piece pertains to the resentment caused by a loud and obnoxious minority who have made sure that there may be no mention of christmas in public lest there be a scandal. Again, you're only capturing the end of the discussion.

That piece starts out with O'Reilly making a list of retailers who do or don't use "Merry Christmas" in their sales ads- are you arguing with the flow of time?

I'm explaining to you why sometimes its important to consider things which occurred before the 0:01 mark of a youtube video rather than framing this whole war on xmas non-issue as if people are offended that stores no longer choose to say "Merry Christmas".

No you are !@#$ing wrong that is exactly what they were talking about- you can say they are morons and that is not what you are about but you can't say that's not one of the things people who believe in a "war on Christmas" complain about.
