Big Turk
Bills have a tough decision...they drafted Hopkins but Carpenter has come in and pretty much been the best kicker in the NFL and is doing a good job on kickoffs. I know its an open competition in training camp, but how much will Carpenter's great kicking this year factor in versus Hopkins unknown ability in real games? Wouldn't be surprised to see us keep Carpenter long term...
Miyagi-Do Karate
Was thinking the same thing today. In fact, when carpenter nailed his second kick, I remember thinking, "good bye, Hopkins." They have to keep carpenter.
BRH
Today went a long way toward sealing that deal. You all saw the train wreck of a kick that Folk missed. Then Carp comes in and kicks two 40+ yarders dead nuts through the same set of uprights, cool as a cucumber. He's been very, very good. Not sure how you let him go now. Wonder if we could at least get a late-round pick for Hopkins.
boyst
Keep carpenter thru final cuts battling Hopkins to be safe. If there is a chance to trade Hopkins, that'd be pretty sweet. How were the winds today on their field? I saw reports of 25 mph gusts forecasted.
Big Turk
Lol, did you not see Folks field goal attempt?
NoSaint
Keep both as long as possible next summer. Carpenter has kicked well for part of a season, but has not always been this good. If he's in the lead still late August, so be it nothing really lost cutting hopkins
SageAgainstTheMachine
It was amazing how those kicks cut through the wind. Even one of EJ's passes (the corner route to Hogan) got taken badly, then magiCarp comes on 20 seconds later and drills it without the ball so much as knuckling. The job's his for now. Miyagi-Do Karate
I would take the drama out of it and sign carpenter to a 2 or 3 year deal. He earned it. Someone should also tell the bills to stop drafting kickers.
Fixxxer
You don't ignore it and keep the guy that hits FGs consistently. Tough break for Hopkins but you ride the hot leg, right now Carpenter's on fire.

John from Riverside
Why not just keep them both?
Doc
The Bills will definitely keep both, meaning they'll have to offer Carpenter a contract since I believe he's on a one-year deal. Will probably cost $2M/year, but they can afford it. Hopkins is making close to minimum so he's not a salary cap drag. Then may the best man win, although I could see having Hopkins KO and Carpenter do FGs.
Over 29 years of fanhood
Great pick up. They'll battle in camp but a good kicker is walking either way
marauderswr80
Kickers are a dime a dozen! But Carpenter is special... We won't miss hopkins.
RyanC883
Carpenter was amazing in that wind today. Def keep him if he keeps this up. Plus, added bonus that Miami cut him. Edited November 18, 2013 by RyanC883
Nick the Greek
Carpenter is on my fantasy team and is no joke today. Today he was one of my best players. I hope he keeps it up.
FireChan
If there is one thing this season has taught me, it's don't trade away your good players. Keep them both. Can never have too much depth.
Charles Romes
Since they returned the kickoff point to the 35 again it's possible to garner a touchback on 70%+ of kickoffs. Carpenter is just not getting it done in that department. Bills rank 4th from he bottom in touchback percentage. Carpenter's kickoff problems are a major reason why he was cut by 3 teams in August. In '10 he missed 11 kicks, scary to any GM. In today's game you need touchbacks and you draft a big leg kicker like Hopkins if you have to. But they lead the league in stops behind the 15 yard line on kickoffs. Touchback percentage is an empty stat. You're better off with a guy that kicks it to the middle of the endzone and dares people to bring it out.
CardinalScotts
your going to play a lot of close games and once the Calendar hits about the Middle of October I prefer a veteran kicker who can kick in bad weather. Dan Carpenter has been tremendous so far, really a special year
