The government has become very good at this divide and conquer thing because they only raise taxes on a segment of the people at a time, making most shrug their shoulders because what the heck, it doesn't affect me.... But, could you imagine if everyone paid the same, and the only way to raise taxes was to do it on everyone at once, the ramifications for anyone proposing such a thing?

We, as a nation, have more people per capita in prison than any other nation on earth and most, are there for non-violent crimes. WTF? OVER???? I know the argument, "but, it might lead to violent crimes!"... But I would argue, there are laws against violent crimes that the Constitution supports. Drugs themselves, without the other, are merely crimes against yourself...

 

Gay marriage?

Take the word if you insist, but I know, a true marriage is a joining between a man and a woman. Call gay or lesbian unions marriage if you want... It's just a word...

 

Social security / private social security?

If it had been left as a retirement supplemental income instead of adding all these other rules to it, and robbing from the "lock box" for other programs, it would remain solvent for years yet. But like any other ponzai scheme, it would still eventually fail. The only way to save it would be to return responsibility of overseeing it to the very people it was meant to help instead of the politicians...

Pretty much agree with this and don't think we need an official religion but it pisses me off that manger scenes can't be presented on public property. Should we be able to provide healthcare to all our citizens in some form? Absolutely. But I don't think a complete forced overhaul is the answer. Affect small changes (that add up) first. They'll usually have the quickest impact and you can get a feel for the collateral damage early on. Wholesale implemenation and change usually turns into a giant game of Whack a Mole. You may correct a few moles, but you'll be constantly chasing the little @#$%@#s unwanted offspring.

2.) Recognizing it's sometimes necessary/ and beneficial to spend over your budget, I can live with it not being balanced all the time. However this would require a certain degree of diligence to make up the shortfalls that I have little faith in Washington being able to manage. So again, we come back to the denominator. You're not capable of fostering this approach so we need to dumb it down. Balance the damn budget.

I feel the 2nd amendment is the most important because it guarantees all the others. I believe any law abiding citizen should be able to own anything from a .22 cal pistol to an m2 ..50 cal machine gun. The exception is I don't think private citizens should be able to own explosives/rocket launchers etc. I think everyone can agree mentally ill people and criminals should not legally be allowed to own weapons. I'm not sure at what level of crime you would cut off someones ability to own weapons but either way...

I believe any American should be able to seek medical treatment. I believe every American should be able to get health insurance (through employer, spouse, Medicare, privately purchased) I also feel that NO American should ever be forced into buying insurance if they don't want it. Ever. And why the hell is the IRS in charge of enforcing obamacare??? I am pro life. However I love jboys idea for the Gvt to pay people who do not want kids to get sterilized. This is a brilliant idea and would go a long way to helping correct many societal issues and social programs. It would be spending 10,000 upfront to save the government 10+ times that much down the road.

Too complex. I think it needs to be streamlined and simplified. Not sure what the best way to do that would be, but I'm willing to listen to any reasonable logical plan. Also I think because federal and state income tax comes out before take home pay that many are oblivious to it. If you had to write a check at the end of the year to the IRS for the same amount they would have taken up to that point per paycheck, a hell of a lot more people would be concerned with government spending and taxation.

Yes congress should have to pass a budget, and in fact if they can't meet the deadline they should not get paid until there is a budget. I think the budget should have to be balanced and begin to seriously address our debt, except during times or war or national emergency then I'm ok on that specific reason to borrow more to protect our country.

Yes. In my head I was tossing around the idea to limit all politicians to no more than 10 years in office. This would return the government to how it was originally intended to be run by private citizens how take time off from their real careers to spend some time in gvt. It would eliminate career politicians, political grid lock. Shady back room deals and corruption,, and amazingly if elected officials basis would come from the private sector on a more frequent basis there would be an infusion of new ideas, expertise and dare I say, ACTUALLY BEING ABLE TO PERFORM THEIR JOBS which they were elected for.

My viewpoints are that I am financially conservative tea party type and my social views are somewhat libertarian. I don't really have a viable party I identify with. Unfortunately its usually a republican candidate but I wish they would spend less time fighting a losing battle on social issues and stick to hammering on the economy and protecting personal freedoms.

On the second amendment I am in total agreement. I think we create far too many idols and need to watch out for things like that. Whether it is a golden calf, a movie star or a football team, these things need to be seen for what they are, not worshiped. Whether liberal or conservative, we are all Bills fans and luckily there has not been too much there to idolize lately but when they get good again we should all remember this thread.

 

I think the gun control question could have been its own separate question and don't see the tie in. In short, I am not in favor of gun control because it doesn't work.

It should not be an official religion but there should be an election every 4 years to see which is the preferred religion. It should be two years separated from the prez election. I don't like having to press 1 for English for example but people can talk whatever way they want. I think in the long run all languages will merge. Look at it this way: 15 years ago could you walk into a grocery store and buy a tortilla for example? That is not even an English word but might as well be. They should see who you voted for in the past. You lose points for picking crappy candidates. When you lose enough points, no more voting because you have bad judgement.

Only if you are a member of a political party like Republican or Democrat.

I don't like it when there are leaves all over the place like in October and November. Many places ban burning leaves due to global warming and I get that. But global warming is really due to cow farts but cows sometimes eat leaves. Why not take all the leaves off the trees in mid September and hide them from cows?
