Not to split hairs here, but your title says "psychiatrist" not "psychologist" like the article does. The main difference being that the former needs an MD. That would have made it a lot more surprising.

 

Obviously this is a ridiculous situation with the psychologist, but the father's mother was right - you're in a nasty custody battle, take the kid to McDonalds. Have these fights in 6 months. There will be plenty of time and opportunity if you can, you know, ever see your son.

Absolutely not. Any kid needs to understand there are limits and boundaries and simply giving in to tantrums all the time makes for longer term issues. The problem in this situation is that at least one of the parents is using the kid as a weapon in their divorce battle. Ok so two adults decide they should be divorced, this does not release them from their obligation to be parents to their child.

Yes. Let it go, it is only McDonald's. Take one for the team dad. Both parents are quiting on their commitment to each other and the child. Is a simple pleasure, like getting a "Happy" Meal too much to ask for in this situation? Now dad wants to be starting QB. Sorry parents, you are being used as pawns... Put the kid in! Obviously the parents can't run the show... They are getting divorced. Again, put the kid in, give 'em a crack @ it. A simple request to get a Happy Meal? Think of the child as a rookie UDFA...
