TC in St. Louis
Any of you guys old enough to remember this one? We were playing on the road v. 49ers, ready to take a lead. Handoff to Darrick Holmes. Plummer pummeled him. Ball popped out and returned 99 yards for a touchdown. Game, set, match. Just like yesterday. It even happens with Jim Kelly as quarterback. http://articles.lati...1_san-francisco Edited November 4, 2013 by TC in St. Louis
BreezeMafia
I do remember that game. I see where you are going with your point. I just think yesterday's play was different and had a different feel to it.

Buffalos#1Fan
I was only 4 at the time At least I'll be able to take over the boards once all you old farts are gone. I'll tell the next generation of bills fans about Tuel's interception
BuffaloWings
I remember that like it was yesterday...it was a tie game and the Bills were just starting to take it over by running the ball down their throats. The fumble return put them behind by 7 and it turned the game to San Fran. FYI, it was Lee Woodall that returned the ball 99 yards.
Flip Johnson
Exactly what I thought of yesterday. Holmes took a vicious hit trying to dive over the top and the play completely changed the game.
GOBILLS78
I was there. My brothers mentioned that as soon as the INT happened. Wasn't that also the game where Justin Armour laid out and made a great diving catch for a touchdown? Edit: Just found the box score. Yep, it was. Marc in MontrÈal
Glad you mentionned it cause it was exactly what crossed my mind. I thought I was the only one. Was just a teenager back then but I remember. It was a night game and Plummer stoned him. Which reminds me: Many years ago it seems like teams, in that precise situation, would fake a handoff to a (flying over the goal line) RB and do something else (hand off to another RB or pass). I guess they dont want to "sacrifice a body" anymore. Marc in Montréal
Storm Front
Hah! No wonder it all felt so familiar. I remember that game. Back then, plays like that were the exception rather than the rule for the Bills.
slcbillsbacker
Group of us were @ that Game! We were also there for the "No Punt" gm in '92 & thought we were gonna be 2-0 for our SF roadies. We were in the opposite endzone/low & didn't see Holmes fumble, just thought he made it in. We're hootin' & hollerin' when all of a sudden SF is running ball back our way....brutal! Bills fans have to be among toughest anywhere to endure things like that & still cheer them on. That or insanely masochistic.

I mean, the RB got blown up and fumbled.

Jon in Pasadena
Yep. IIRC Plummer speared Holmes square in the chest with the crown of his helmet. That play changed the whole complexion of the game. I remember being pretty pissed off.

AllenToBrown2020
It's the first thing I thought of when it happened. There was also a game in I believe 1996 where Jim Kelly threw a pick-six to Terrell Buckley against the Dolphins. Buckley returned it 91 yards for a score. Different situation, as this was a 4th and goal from the 11 or something similar, but Kelly actually threw the pick six in this one, and it was in the last few moments of the game with the game on the line. I didn't look too hard for a link, but I did find the Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1996_Buffalo_Bills_season
