Six Hours in the Richmond Area... what to do?

Recommended Posts

I will have about six hours free this evening and maybe a few in the morning in which my girlfriend and I will have free while in Richmond. I already asked Google and I got more then I expected. That being the case I want the bang for the buck without spending any bucks.

The plan is to drive up thru Appomattox (where I did contract work for a week a few years ago). I am coming from 27292 if that helps anyone figure out what might be worth stopping and seeing.

Thanks in advance...

Legend Brewing Company($5/pint), Hollywood Cemetary(free), Drive up and down Monument Ave(free), Hardywood Brewing Company($5/pint), walk around Maymont Park(free)

Good thing you put those walks in there between pints! Because the DUI on Monument Ave. is most likely not gonna be free! ;-) ;-)

I am such a killjoy! Drive sober Boyst! :-)

Music tonight:

Both bands are good. AC&T is about 15 min N of Richmond.

I might be at AC&T so let me know if you go. Also, one block from AC&T is 'The Caboose' a specialty beer, wine, etc. shop. Free wine tasting 5-7. A good way to get ready for the show at AC&T.

Both places have local microbrews available.

Tomorrow 8-12: South of the James Farmers Market - largest in the area and you can get breakfast.

My wife's food trailer will be there so stop by and say hi if you go.

Those crepes look amazing. Next time I'm in Richmond (Nov. 23rd) I'm going to try to find them.

Thanks. Her family is from France and she trained at a creperie in Brittany so these are about as close to authentic as you are going to get in the states.

I would check the web site or facebook before you arrive to see where her trailer is. The complete Nov schedule (some are already there) should be out in a few days.

Excellent. I loved making crepes. I'd get all the burners going and could make them 6 or 8 at a time and get a good stack of them done pretty quickly. We'd make savory dishes with them. My favorite was filling them with smoked salmon mousse. And no I didn't kill anyone with it. BTW how is her truck working out. I had the idea for a gourmet food truck years ago before they became all the craze. If I only.......

that's the market in forest hill park? that's an awesome market...i remember when it started out and you just saw the potential, especially in that area. I am glad it stuck it out and seems to be flourishing...it beats the hell out of having to go to the bottom and fight traffic and parking...

Thanks for asking and like the Python reference. It is her business but I help out a bunch. The biz is doing ok. She is doing more catering and specialty events which is what she was driving toward (pun intended) and also being more selective in the events she attends. As you know, the restaurant business is intensely competitive and exhausting and I sympathize with any restaurateur or mobile food owner after getting a first-hand view of what is involved. If I am not occupied with my job, I will cook (I also went to Brittany with her and worked in a creperie) with her at some events. That part is typically enjoyable...it is just everything else: employee stuff, taxes for the different jurisdictions where working, application fees, licenses, inspections, maintenance, clean-up, prep, etc. I am sure you would have done well in the gourmet mobile food business. The specialty/gourmet association puts you on a different track than the standard fare.
