I feel like he's done better than Byrd while he was out there.. He was never caught outta position in pass coverage and he knew the defense like the back if his hand. He earned his right to keep his spot because he's done an exceptional job so far. I don't know maybe I sound crazy but I think Jim is a better option

We will beat the Chiefs Sunday GO BILLS!!!!

I agree. I would like to see more of Leonard out there.

In fact, on the play where Hughes was beat long by Stills, I was surprised we didn't see Leonard out on the field, instead of Hughes. With Lawson injured, I'd like to see Leonard mixed in on obvious passing downs.

I have to question Hughes over Leonhard as well. I don't think wither is a Bryan Scott but Leonhard is a better choice.

I would love to have Bryan Scott back right about now. He is the perfect hybrid, but I get that he is pretty old. Leonard is now our poor man's Bryan Scott, if such a thing could exist.

Disagree and guessing you are letting their off field story lines and likability skew your opinion here.

I don't mind him on the field more but not in place of Byrd.

Random thought: leonhard vs Hughes - who wins in a foot race these days?!?

Stills would have smoked JL too. I get what you're saying but what makes a blitz effective is not knowing where it's coming from. If Hughes is on the field only in certain situations, the Blitz loses it's effectiveness. Mismatches happen all the time on blitzes. That's the gamble. And props to Brees, he recognized it and made a huge play.

Brees would have made the play regardless. I like what JL has done for us this season but I disagree that he hasn't been out of position/beaten at times. Byrd's upside is much higher and he is just a better player. I would love to see JL in there in some packages, but am sure Pettine knows when that should be. JL has made some big plays but I think Byrd will do the same.

While Leonard has played better than I expected, that makes him just what we purchased: a veteran that isn't exceptional, but is a good low-end starter. I think Byrd has been playing very well, from what I've seen.

In broad strokes, I'd say:

Leonard
- makes good decisions, but may be a step behind at times; not as physical or a solid tackler

Searcy
- A bigger young guy who is pretty fast and likes to hit. He tackles well, but may be out of position or late, but appears to be developing.

Williams
- better coverage skills than the above, and has made good decisions this year. He's still prone to some mistakes, but appears to be continuing to improve. (Though he hasn't played as well as the start of the year IMO, I cut him a lot of slack for jumping between positions.)

Byrd
- He has been flying around and is clearly a cut above the others listed here. He's starting to look like he's in game-shape. While he "sells out" throwing his body into tackles, he comes off as smaller, and doesn't bring the same force as Aaron Williams. (I was just shocked to see on the roster that he's listed 4 pounds heavier than A. Williams!?)

Duke Williams
- Not ready for prime time. He's a worse DB than Justin Rogers at this point, but that's not a knock on him. He's a very young player who will need at least a year to be able to hold his own on the field, and may never get there.

I have to question why there wasn't safety support rolled over to that side on that Hughes play. And that safety would have been Byrd.

In certain blitzes, it's man to man and there's safety over the top. It happens all the time. But you rarely see a QB find the mismatch as well as Brees did. You have to just tip your hat to him.

Great breakdown. Searcy has really surprised me. I thought he was a borderline cut this summer and he's thrived in the system. That said, he is still a liability in pass coverage.

I have to disagree. I think he misses tackles and is not good in coverage. He has not played poorly but I prefer Byrd over Leonard.

Disagree about Leonard....not beating Chiefs!!

Hughes wasn't responsible for stills on that play it was a blown assignment by one of the corners, they never followed stills once he was motioned to the other side.
