Rockee96 Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Has anyone been to the Martin House complex? Is it worth seeing and paying $15 for the tour? Im not a big architecture person....Just wondering if you liked it, since I only have a couple days in Buffalo. Thanks so much!!
DDD Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 (edited) I toured the house about 25 years ago then again 3 years ago after the visitor pavilion was built (which is extremely well done btw). If you are into architecture particularly Frank Lloyd Wright it is a must see. It is amazingly different from the surrounding houses that were built at the time. Unfortunately, the inside of the house was a disappointment and looked the same as it did 25 years ago and has not been restored (at least when I saw it). The woodwork and fireplaces were intact but the kitchen was a mess, there was no original furniture, and alot of the original windows and light fixtures were gone. Nevertheless it is a gem and the City of Buffalo is fortunate to have it. If you don't want to pay the $15 to go inside at least walk around it which is free. Edited October 23, 2013 by DDD
Rockee96 Posted October 23, 2013 Author Posted October 23, 2013 Thank you! I appreciate your feedback.
\GoBillsInDallas/ Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 For $15 by itself it is not worth it. The time to see it is when they have those "open house" tours in the spring and summer and you can see multiple houses for the same price.
Rockee96 Posted October 24, 2013 Author Posted October 24, 2013 Thanks....I like your quotes by the way....
