K D Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Thad isn't the permanent starter but he's doing a fine job of keeping the boat afloat
Arkady Renko Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Mark Gaughan and I made a deal that if Thad Lewis went 5-0 starting today that I could meet him and run his Friday morning chat. FYI. #madforthad.
papazoid Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 there are 4 weeks until the BYE week. he would have to go 3-1 or 4-0 to earn a start after the bye.
thebandit27 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 If he plays the way he did today it really doesn't matter what the record is...he was NOT good today. Unless he elevates his game by several notches, it isn't even a discussion IMO
Hapless Bills Fan Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Yeah, but there's always ways to delay "full health". I doubt it will happen, but if Thad wins out, I wouldn't be surprised if EJ's injury becomes lingering. If Thad is winning, it is possible EJ will be "rusty" and need a few weeks of practice to get into football shape.

Unless he elevates his game by several notches, it isn't even a discussion IMO The schedule gets pretty tough. If he couldn't take advantage against a suspect Dolphins team it'll be tough against New Orleans and Kansas City.

fansince88 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 5-0 means he won 6 games. I dont think he unseats Ej as he hasnt really been solid but very servicable. How bout he may force EJ to be very healthy before he returns. I picked 4-1 but that just lets them work EJ back slowly but they will put him back in. I think of it as more of a Jim Kelly / Frank Reich situation we have brewing here.
Playoff Bound Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 I think Lewis did an adequate job for a backup QB but look at how the points were scored. A pick six, a TD on a short field and a 38 yard drive for a field goal. Their longest drive was 72 yards and it ended with another field goal. If the defense didn't get the turnover late the Bills would not have won today. They had little consistency on offense. EJ is the starter and they need to see where he can take this team.

vegasbillzfan42 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 The fact that this thread hasn't been taken down is a disgrace to Bills fans everywhere! Just sayin
sodbuster Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Nothing short of Brady-esque play should secure the starting spot for him. Just that type of play will be needed to win the next couple games though. It's gonna be a fun ride.
Wings and Beer Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Wins will not earn him the job, he will need to be the reason we win. While I'm pleased with how he has filled in, he hasmt shown anything to warrant starting status upon EJ's return. He is really growing on me as a our backup, but my dream is that he raises his value to the point of trade bait. (Fingers crossed for a Kolb leaving Philly situation. They got DRC and a second in return.)
Prickly Pete Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 I think if the Bills are in contention, EJ has been out the full 6 weeks (now 5), and TL has played well, I think he will finish off the season, and next year in camp it will be a QB battle. I don't think the staff is as tied to EJ starting, as much so many others think. I think they are more concerned with winning, and can easily justify putting off EJ's starting by saying the truth...that his development has been hindered by the injury, and that TL is giving them the best shot of winning right now. Why are fans so quick to question the motives of the coaches? Both of the QB's were brought in by this staff. I don't see any indications that they are overly worried about "justifying" EJ's selection. They brought in Kolb, and probably expected him to start the year anyway.
Bills Fan888 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 You go with the guy who gives you the best chance to win. If that's Thad you start Thad, if not, you go with EJ.
Owf71 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Eleventy-two!!! 🍺here here! Thad could win 10 games and get us in the playoffs and EJ will start in the playoffs! (See what I did there) EJ gets the starters pay so he is the starter as is Wilson Law
Alphadawg7 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Really? I think Thad is better in every conceivable way. Of course you do...I wouldn't expect anything else from you
Max997 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 I think it would be more about how he plays then if the Bills win or not bc they won today but it certainly wasn't bc of Lewis
KikO M G Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 If Thad out-guns Drew Brees in New Orleans next week, then let's all revisit this question. If not, I agree he's playing for the chance to be the permanent backup when EJ comes back.
26CornerBlitz Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 He's playing for the chance to be the permanent backup when EJ comes back. Fixed. There we have it.
