Beerball Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 or do you think Carpenter just missed it? I vote for Crossman calling it.
26CornerBlitz Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 or do you think Carpenter just missed it? If it was by design, I'm gonna be pissed! Can't wait to hear what Marrone has to say in his presser.
UpperDeck Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 I sure hope that wasn't called. That is the last thing you'd want.
Jerry Jone's Toupee Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 If it was by design, I'm gonna be pissed! Can't wait to hear what Marrone has to say in his presser. I just knew it was going to be last week all over again with that return.
Coastie Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 I sure hope that wasn't called. That is the last thing you'd want. I agree, the few seconds you run off the clock are not worth the risk of a long return to me.
Taro T Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 or do you think Carpenter just missed it? I vote for Crossman calling it. If the coach called for it, he should be fired on the planeride back home.
Bronc24 Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 I just knew it was going to be last week all over again with that return. Except it wasn't. We won.
Beerball Posted October 20, 2013 Author Posted October 20, 2013 If the coach called for it, he should be fired on the planeride back home. He ran (by the numbers) below average teams in Detroit before coming here. One hitch...he's a longtime Marrone friend.
Chandler#81 Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 If Carpenter loses his job next year, it will ONLY be because he doesn't consistently drive the ball out the back end of the field, as many/most kickers today can. Otherwise, competing against a Draft pick or not, he's earned his spot!
Max997 Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 If it was planned that it was called by Marrone or at least was ok with it bc a ST coach doesn't do that in his own
gobillsinytown Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 (edited) Special team coverage is definitely an issue at the moment. The good news is that it can be fixed during the season. Tasker said the single most important thing on punt and kickoff coverage was lane discipline. On some of the long returns this year, you'll see Bills players all bunched up together, meaning that they broke out of their lanes too quickly to chase the ball carrier, creating holes for the ball carrier to run through. This problem can be solved as the people on punt and kick coverage get some experience. Edited October 20, 2013 by gobillsinytown
klos63 Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 (edited) it was poor coverage - a kick to the goal line shouldn't be considered a bad play. It was just poor coverage, probably one of the first bad ones of the year on kickoffs. It wasn't a horrible call, just horrible execution. Edited October 20, 2013 by klos63
BillnutinHouston Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Will be interesting to hear what the call was. But I think it WAS a planned kick with the intent of running more clock.
Tcali Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 we have the worst return coverage in football-----if that was called it was insane

Livinginthepast Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 I would love to know how many years the Buffalo Bills have taken off my life since I have been a fan. I felt physically ill watching that last 30 seconds just waiting for yet another kick in the teeth. That kick was yet another example of either an idiotic coaching decision at a pivotal time or horribly executed play once again at a pivotal time. This special teams coach should be fired anyway for all the gaffes this season. They have lost 2 games because of terrible punt coverages and unbelievably they almost do the same with the game on the line on A KICKOFF!! Only in Buffalo!
MDH Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 we have the worst return coverage in football-----if that was called it was insane The KO coverage has actually been good. It's the punt coverage that's horrible.
