An open note to all PPP participants about mods and PPP Bills thread

Recommended Posts

BuffaloBill: 11,472 posts and I didn't even know you were a moderator. And apparently a good one at that. I barely know who any of the moderators are. Darin (kind of--he's just the Ralph on this Lord of the Flies island). Scott, who I assume is still around. Simon, who obviously comes here sometimes. No idea who else. Oh yeah, Just Jack who warned me for the first time ever a few weeks ago (a spillover issue that I deeply regret). There must be more. Been here for 15+ years and I don't even know the people who run it all. In any event, thank you and I hope you suspend Tom again. He always deserves it.

So did you consult with Darin (or anybody else for that matter) before you decided to barge into PPP and tell everybody what they are now allowed and not allowed to post in here?

Or did you just decide all on your own that you are now going to be the new boss of PPP?

I know that a lot of you fellas have wanted me out of here for a long time, and it may well turn out that you have been right all along and that my exit would solve some problems and alleviate some hard feelings. If that turns out to be the case, I'm OK with that.

But as I stroll casually towards the door allow me say that you should beware of men who feel it is their place to come into your turf and tell you how you're going to act for your own good. While I think it's wise to keep the main board relatively free of a lot of the stuff that goes on here, I have always been protective of PPP and the posters who want to come over and take the gloves off and have at 'er, as I enjoy doing that sometimes as well. Y'all might want to consider the wisdom of allowing somebody who doesn't respect that boundary to gain a beachhead in here.

This from a guy who comes here and switches poll results with his mod power just because he can? Please go worry about the main board and participate here as a poster, not some 2 bit bully pretending to worry about Darin's turf. I'm all for reasonable moderation. But I'm against you using your power just to mess with people. You want to mess with someone in PPP? Debate them. Call them on their BS. But don't delete a post or suspend someone just because they are being the regular crap-throwing monkey they always are.

Of course, like Darin said, it's a private board and I could be banned tomorrow for no reason and there isn't jack I can do about it. Thanks for all the hard work.

Don't be shy. Do it so we all can hear.

that was actually a gentle poke at Chef...

But...my perspective hasn't changed. I don't moderate PPP. AD has that honor and I don't see a need to step in.

Regarding the other forums...as Scott says in the TOS...the Golden Rule is the best barometer for what is OK and what isn't. Treat folks with respect and expect the same in return.

John - thank you. I would suspend Tom though I actually enjoy his antics. I would hate to lose the entertainment. Besides my life's equilibrium would be lost if he didn't occasionally call me an idiot or erudite poster or whatever the heck his current tag is.

I am mostly a lurker in these parts. I recognize that it would be hard to have a political forum without a lot of room to maneuver in the exchange of thoughts. People are passionate about religion, politics and sex so naturally they will be a little more spirited, and also a bit overboard, in discussions tied to these topics. No, that was not me opening a door to the idea of having some sort of religion and sex forums. I can't begin to imagine how the heck anybody would moderate those topics.

My long winded original post was meant to simply convey that unfortunately people are at times misunderstanding that The Lord of the Flies island as you so eloquently described it is exactly that. When people venture off the island they simply need to recognize that the standards of moderating are much less tolerant and not be caught by surprise in this.

Yeah I know what meant about Chef. Lame as it is, no advice is his trademark.

Given that after 17 years or something of posting, I just got my first warning for implying that Jim in Anchorage has homosexual tendencies (note--I am not calling him a name here--just conveying the facts around my warning) over on the OT board, I can't imagine what you'd have to do to get suspended from PPP.

Two pages. Thirty four posts. No phucking clue what this thread is about.

So with that I take the liberty of locking my own thread and allow it to drop into the abyss of the many enlightening threads soon to be archived. I've enjoyed being a guest here but do not wish to overextend my welcome.
