We've thought it would've been broken for years now. Last year Aldon Smith was on pace to SHATTER the record and didn't record a sack for the last three games.

The real stud on that team is Justin Smith. Once he went down for the last 3 games, Aldon Smith was invisible.

Which brings up another point - injuries.

Yes it could be broken but consider the year Bruce set the record. The Bills were a dominant offense who played with a lot of leads.

Didn't realize you were talking about the NFL record & not the club record. That would be real tough.

Yes, but those DUI checkpoints they put up for him made him take a circuitous route to the QB.

I was interested in seeing where Mario ranked on sacks for this season, and so far he's 3rd on the list with 7.5.

While 7.5 sacks in 5 games is impressive, I'm surprised at the sack numbers of Justin Houston (8.5) and Robert Mathis (9.5). Not only does it seem that Strahan's sack record could be broken this year (22.5 sacks), but there's a strong possibility there could be multiple players surpassing it as well.

In the pass happy NFL it is only a matter of time.

And not just to the single player - but the guy next to him, the secondary behind him, the offense producing so you play with leads etc...

Is this a good time to bring up that Justin Houston was a no brainer pick over Kelvin Sheppard?

If you wanted a MLB Mason Foster was also a no brained. I mentioned that in 2011. Is it too late in 2013?

Smaller sample sizes always have outliers, as the sample size grows they almost always move back toward the mean. ALMOST always... go Mario!

I wouldn't count on it...as of right now we cant get far enough ahead to force a team into playing catchup or force them into 3rd in long...both situations where a d lineman is strictly going after the QB and not concerned with the run

3 schemes and a whole lot of dysfunction later I feel like most linebackers taken there would've struggled. That's not to disagree with your assessment as much as to say the results may not have been drastically different

It's easily understood how Buddy missed on Foster- he went to Washington. However, Houston went to Georgia. Under Nix the Bills seemed to only draft players from south of the Mason-Dixon line; so how they missed on Houston is a head scratcher (of course Sheppard went to LSU- guess Buddy and the scouts must have seen more LSU games that season).

Houston also had some 'issues' coming out of UGA.

Every sack record should come with an *. Teams throw all the time. Sacks/ pass attempt should be the actually stat you use. It makes what Bruce, Reggie, & LT that much more impressive.

So true... back then, throwing for over 3000 yards was very good. Now, its nothing... Stat wise, Fitzy's numbers were up there with some of Kelly's better years! This is such a pass happy league now and its normal for QB's to throw about 40 passes a game.

It is nice to see the Sacks from Mario. Not just Mario though, Dareus is playing extremely well and having his best yr as a pro. Kyle is still making plays and has 2 sacks to go with it. And past 2 weeks, Hughes has really shown. We have been getting pressure on QB from alot of diff players which makes OL assignments that much tougher knowing they can not just key on Mario.

Hopefully, the sacks lead to W's... The sack record is too early to tell yet as many have mentioned they do come in bunches.

Agree.

Conversly, Oline men have gotten far better as has pass protection schemes and holding as well.

Bruce, LT and Reggie would be great today i believe. The fast paced O may also have an effect on them too.

Yup - and our staff worked with shep hands on at the senior bowl. That was a tough one to get wrong but who knows if picking someone else would've been right at this point
