Bills open to trading Byrd

What's the fascination with Nassib? If the Bills wanted him they would have drafted him.

Wouldn't the Bills pick up a 3rd round compensatory pick next year if they were to lose Byrd via FA. If they trade him for anything less than a 3rd it'd make no sense at all. Honestly your team isn't going to get better in the long run if you're in the business of trading Pro Bowlers away for mid round draft picks. Byrd is a very very good player and I'd rather have him on the team this year and next year (for $8.2 million), than take a mid round draft pick. Also shipping him out basically concedes the fact that once again Eugene Parker has outplayed the Bills. Need to put an end to these negotiation tactics so that it doesn't happen with other players down the road

It's depends on any FAs the Bills sign.

It is not guaranteed. We are not the Patriots. It could be a 4th or 5th.

It's strictly a dollars distinction on his next contract determining the round he would qualify for but if we sign a healthy sized FA group we may not be eligible at all

The Syracuse connection and the fact that he would already know the offense

As I said, if they wanted him they would have drafted him. I don't care if he knows the offense. Does he know the other players on the offense?

@AdamSchefter: Bills know wisest course of action is to trade franchise S Jairus Byrd and they now are open to dealing him, per sources. Talks ongoing.

The most important part of this is "@AdamSchefter". He knows nothing about the Bills intentions.

Which is hilarious, because if he gets franchised...isn't it a max out of a 3rd rounder?

I wonder the history of the franchise tag? How many 3rd rounders have been franchised? I would bet all the 3rd rounders franchised, plus 4th and 5th rounders in the last 5 years are less then just those of the 1st round alone.

Disintegration before our eyes. Staggering to think we didn't have a veteran backup quarterback option.

The lone bright spot here was getting Byrd/Gilmore back. If we trade him, I'd be happy with a legit lineman and a second round pick. Anything less--especially for a Nassib like player--would be a huge disappointment.

Bills need a QB badly. Pat White & Dennis Dixon? May as well bring in Betty White & Donna Dixon. Now it comes out that they are open to trading Byrd. They were waiting until he was healthy. I bet it happens tomorrow. Three that I thought of: Giants need a safety. Nassib (Obviously knows Hackett/ Marrone and the offense) and a draft choice for Byrd. Raiders might sign Freeman. They sign him and we trade Byrd to the Raiders for Flynn and a draft choice. Steelers- Gradkowski or Jones for Byrd and a draft choice. They get a QB that is better than any of the free agents out there, not a starter but someone actually on a roster and a draft choice. Plus they are rid of the Byrd headache. Makes sense.

He knows Hackett's offense. Is that a plus or a minus?

Byrd for Kirk cousins and a third rd pick

I like Cousins a lot, but in all honesty, that would be a tricky situation, even if they could get him (I don't think so)...they don't want to bring in a guy to create a QB cotroversy...you know that would happen with Cousins....

As I said, if they wanted him they would have drafted him. I don't care if he knows the offense. Does he know the other players on the offense?

Nucci, that is silly. They wanted EJ more....but suppose Nassib had been an undrafted FA, like Tuel. You don't think the Bills would have signed, or tried, to sign him?

I don't think they would be stupid enough to trade Byrd. They have to have learned from their past mistakes.

The little you can gain in a trade is not even remotely worth turning Cordy Glenn, Gilmore, Alonso and Dareus into Parker clients.

Give Parker more ammunition to take into the Bills lockerroom and you will find these guys sitting out with 2 years left on their contract knowing that Parker is above the collective bargaining agreement when dealing with the feeble willed Bills front office........ and can get you your dream contract and get it a year earlier.

Just the distraction of having players putting that cart that far before the horse is bad news. If people thought the Parker situation was as bad as it can get, they haven't seen anything yet. Wait until Parker has 3 guys at once pulling this with the Bills.

Nucci, that is silly. You don't think it is possible they liked Nassib, but liked Manuel more? They don't have an unlimited number of picks in the draft, you realize. Let me ask you this: if Nassib had gone undrafted, and was a street FA after the draft, like Jeff Tuel, you don't think the Bills would have signed (or tried to sign) him?

Based on that the best you get is a 3rd. Anyone saying first is dreaming

I'm still skeptical of not being able to extended a traded franchise player. But even still, the team can franchise him again if they can't come to an agreement, which is doubtful since parameters for a contract would probably be worked-out before the trade.
