bobobonators Posted October 4, 2013 Author Posted October 4, 2013 I'll probably get tarred and feathered for this but ... If they don't see someone they *really* like (i.e not a stop gap) maybe they let Tuel start until Manuel gets back. I have to assume they liked Tuel as a backup before last night. Kicking him to the curb after a bad road game coming in cold and with probably damn few first team reps in weeks seems like an overreaction. Realistically the Bills were probably not making the playoffs this season with or without Manuel. Why not let Tuel start at this point with proper preparation and see what he has. If he sucks, then they know they need a backup QB this off season. If he becomes adequate they can rest easier in the future. What is the point of bring in a stop-gap QB now? Good point. It's not as if Freeman was tearing it up in Tampa - last image I have of him is punting the ball out of his own end zone vs. the Jets for a safety. Tuel was ungodly awful yesterday though. I guess it can't get any worse. We have to bring someone in though for depth alone
nucci Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 The squad needs to sign Tebow ASAP. Freeman won't come here, because he knows he'd be a backup. Can we stop the Tebow comments, please? He is an awful QB. If he was so great he would be on an NFL roster right now. A number of teams have bad QBs and still don't sign him.
NoSaint Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 This team can't catch a break. Next 4 games are toughies. CINCI @ Miami @ Saints KC only 2 of those teams are undefeated!
CosmicBills Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 I would consider tebow in this limited context, pending who else is seriously in the discussion. Any to tgreg99---of course tebow is not an nfl qb! Who said he is? The problem is we don't have one on the team now and won't for 3 or 4 games. Tebow brings some things to the plate and gives us a better chance than teul for example. It's kind of a no win situation ,isn't it? There is a reason these guys in the conversation are NFL castoffs!!!!! No. You're wrong. 100%. Tebow can't play the position AND brings incredible baggage and is a locker room cancer. If you want to destroy the burgeoning chemistry on this team, Tebow is your man. If you care about the Bills being a competent team in the future, you keep Tebow far far far away from OBD.
Just in Atlanta Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Because at 2-3 you can't throw the towel in on the season.... especially with the AFC East as wide open as it's been in over a decade. Stop. You're embarrassing yourself. I'd say the same to you sir. The amount of overly negative, and positive, attention the kid gets is embarrassing. Tebow is a serviceable backup. He's won games. He can run an offense better than Tuel can. He's not our savior, but a decent emergency quarterback. End of story.

Bronc24 Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 The season is not lost if we can sign someone who doesn't kill us and gives the offense some type of threat. If I'm Freeman, I sign one year with the Bills because they have potential to win games. That gets me a lucrative offer in the offseason. Plus, Buffalo is away from the media spotlight.

He doesn't give us a better chance no matter what. JP>Tebow, FITZ>Tebow, RJ> Tebow. ENOUGH WITH TEBOW
bobobonators Posted October 4, 2013 Author Posted October 4, 2013 I like the idea of David Carr Same here. Much better than Freeman. Carr knows his place in the league. Seems like a good guy. Have never heard anything to the contrary. Freeman appears to have some baggage. What's the point when he'll only serve as a replacement for a few weeks. If i'm Freeman, I don't sign with the Bills b/c how many games will he be winning if he only starts 2-3 weeks..which by the way is a pretty tough 2-3 weeks stretch.

Carr doesn't have the arm anymore in my opinion. He's shell shocked from the horrible offensive lines he had to play behind for years. Carr gives you less of a chance of a QB controversy than Freeman, but Freeman gives you a better chance to win. Just my opinion of course. Edited October 4, 2013 by tgreg99
Fadingpain Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 No, he's not. If he was a decent emergency QB he'd be on an NFL roster. You're embarrassing yourself. OK, we get it. You don't like Tebow! Guess what? Neither do I! The guy is capable of managing a certain style of game (that involves little passing) and he has had some success doing that in this league. We are not talking "great idea" here or even "acceptable idea"....we are talking about coming up with best possible bad idea to get us out of **** storm. I think this is the part you are missing.

And yet, for someone who doesn't like him you continue to defend him. You're wrong. He's garbage, the entire league knows it. He divides every locker room he enters (which is more damning than his terrible mechanics). Calling for Tebow to be signed lowers the Football IQ of the entire board. Stop it.
Kelly the Dog Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 There are a lot of kinds of baggage. I don't happen to know what kind Freeman has. I would find it VERY hard to believe he would be anything but a saint if he came to the bills right now! had a chance to start and play for a few games right away and reestablish his credentials as a starting QB in this league to other teams. There probably aren't any other places he could go in and play right away.

zow2 Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Pat White did a nice job in Washington for preseason. they hated having to let him go. not sure if he is back there?
CodeMonkey Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Because at 2-3 you can't throw the towel in on the season.... especially with the AFC East as wide open as it's been in over a decade. i know what you mean. But they are 2-3 overall with the Pats* at 4-0 and the Phins at 3-1. And maybe more important, the Bills are 0-2 in the division and 1-3 in the conference. And starting what you think is a capable backup for a game or two is what you do when your #1 goes down, not panic shopping. Also, if Marrone thought Tuel was a capable backup before, last night should not have changed his mind so quickly. If Marrone did not think Tuel was an adequate backup that begs the even more disturbing question, why in the world would Marrone and Whaley allow the situation to exist where if their #1 went down they immediately need to go into a panic mode to hire someone off the street.
Just in Atlanta Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Tebow brings out the crazy. Good grief. Which, I guess, is reason to stay away from him, and that is unfortunate. He's a terrible thrower. We get it. But he's a tremendous athlete who has a knack for winning. To beat a dead horse, the kid took the freaking Broncos to the freaking playoffs and beat the freaking Steelers. He's freaking good enough for a couple of freaking games already.
Fadingpain Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 And yet, for someone who doesn't like him you continue to defend him. You're wrong. He's garbage, the entire league knows it. He divides every locker room he enters (which is more damning than his terrible mechanics). Calling for Tebow to be signed lowers the Football IQ of the entire board. Stop it. No one is calling for him "to be signed". You should read more and criticize Tim Tebow less. The original poster asked if Tebow should be considered in the discussion here. I think he should be. Doesn't mean he wins the job. It means he earns a spot in the discussion. Not sure what you watched last night, but guess what? All games started by Teul will be Bills losses, guaranteed. I actually think Tebow's odds of some success are greater. I am certainly open to other suggestions as well, though no one that is brought in like this will be worth a damned. You get that part, right?
