Jim in Anchorage Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 Chicago is the last place I would live. Horribly crowded and developed, solid city all the way to Milwaukee. In Buffalo a 20 min drive has you in the country.
ExiledInIllinois Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 (edited) Chicago is the last place I would live. Horribly crowded and developed, solid city all the way to Milwaukee. In Buffalo a 20 min drive has you in the country. Same here in the Chicago area. 20 minute drive from the city and you are in the country. You must be driving in the wrong direction Jim. Try driving south/southeast from the Illiana border. See, that this is the thing... Everybody thinks "Chicago" is north of I-55. I live in Will County... It is vastly country and has city (Joliet). I am 20 minutes from Chicago and work. There are corn/soy fields all around me. It actually takes me an hour to get to Will County's "City" in Joliet... Which is my county seat and where all my gov't business, like jury duty, taxes, etc... has to be done. Edited October 9, 2013 by ExiledInIllinois
bbb Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 Sunny and 70 for the next ten days in Buffalo. The way it's been for months, only ten degrees lower right now.
Gordio Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 The weather in the summer is nicer in Buffalo than Oakland? Well you've just made a fool of yourself. How many summers have you spent in Oakland to be qualified to make that statement? How much rain did you get this summer? How many days of 100% humidity? How many days have you not seen the sun since May? Oh and even the ****ty weather city of SF has better weather in Sept and Oct than Buffalo. Alright, I just went on Oakland's weather for the last year. I will be man enough to admit when I am wrong. You guys have nicer weather then us pretty much all year round. Still our weather is not as bad as you & Illinois make it out to be.

People that don't live here hear how bad the summer weather in SF is and think it's like that all over here and it's not. We sit in our backyard with sunny 80 degree weather in August and see the city only 15 miles away enshrouded in fog. It sucked over there in the summer and we couldn't wait to move. And no WNY weather is not that bad. I've had some great weather when I come back in August but I come back every January and February and it's usually god awful. Either -15 wind chill or 40 and brown snow and mud.
Jim in Anchorage Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 (edited) So weather is it as far as a good place to live? No other considerations? Move to Carlsbad CA then. Case closed. Edited October 9, 2013 by Jim in Anchorage

Jim in Anchorage Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 Carlsbad?? Carlsbad sucks. Why? Lived there 7 years. 72 year round.
Chef Jim Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 Why? Lived there 7 years. 72 year round. Too close to the Pacific. Foggy and chilly a lot of the time. Not much better than SF http://www.weather.com/weather/wxclimatology/monthly/graph/92009 http://www.weather.com/weather/wxclimatology/monthly/graph/USCA0987

All we had had was a small space heater, and the only time it was used was when my brother came back from surfing in the winter at 8 AM.

All we had had was a small space heater, and the only time it was used was when my brother came back from surfing in the winter at 8 AM. It depends where you were I guess. Kind of like SF. All I know is that when you drive from OC to SD there was this breezy fog patch along the freeway at Carlsbad. I did have a client meeting just a few miles in and the weather was great. And now that I think about it, it was worse in Oceanside.

Don't remember cold WX and I don't think there was any as our avocado trees where full of escaped parakeets year round. And my days where spent swimming in the lagoon catching octopus and starfish. bbb Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 I didn't cut it off. I wasn't going to go to the next page, and paste all that, too. All I know is we had a charity golf tourney on Monday, and it was the one day in ten that it was going to be bad out. Sunday was gorgeous and Tuesday thru the next 7 days were all sunny and an average of 70. So far, that's exactly how it's gone.

In Buffalo a 20 min drive has you in the country. I get it that you don't want an urban lifestyle. If you do Chicago is a great place to live. All the city of NYC but without the hassles. It also has character that is IMO lacking in LA.

Kevin Oconnel on last nights news said that he was speaking to some of his collegues around the country earlier in the day & they pretty much all agreed that WNY has had one of the nicest weather patterns/weather in the country for the last few months. I tend to agree with him. It has been beautiful here pretty much everyday for a while now. Edited October 10, 2013 by Gordio
