VirginiaMike Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 I know we are all prone to overreaction after a nice win or ugly loss so here is mine. After watching Easley cover punts and kickoffs in the last couple of games, I have to say that I don't think anyone has done it much better for the Bills, outside of Steve Tasker. Now Easley has to show the durability to approach Tasker in Bill's lore, he is certainly getting the job done. I hope he keeps it up!
Gasjuggler Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 The guy has been a beast so far. Not as fast as Steve but bigger. I wish they would give him some reps at receiver.
rocwocka Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 I keep thinking he should be playing more on offense... he is definitely our special teams ace now
Over 29 years of fanhood Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 The guy has been a beast so far. Not as fast as Steve but bigger. I wish they would give him some reps at receiver. Tasker was fast? I may be forgetting I just don't remember him as fast. Easley has very good speed prolly 3rd fastest after Goodwin and close to graham...
Prickly Pete Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Has he blocked any kicks? That is the ultimate special teams play in my mind, the rarest of the rare. Has he returned any kicks for touchdowns? I don't think Easley is close to Tasker (and I'm not even a "Tasker in the HoF" guy).

Webster Guy Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Easley did take one kickoff return to the house I believe. And yes he is WAY faster than tasker its not even close. His knack for being unblockable on kick coverage reminds me of Tasker as well, and it has really helped this team. Marcus could make the pro bowl if he keeps this up. Nice to see him making an impact after all the patience we've had for the kid and all the work he's put in. Im proud of him. Even though its probably not what he imagined when he was drafted, it's still a huge help to our team.
Charles Romes Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 I keep thinking he should be playing more on offense... he is definitely our special teams ace now "More"? Wouldn't that imply he's played on offense?
Gerry Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Needs to be given playing time; he has the size (6'2"/220) of today's receiving stars in the league. Could be the big, physical receiver the team needs; they have had none since Eric Moulds.

Has he returned any kicks for touchdowns? I don't think Easley is close to Tasker (and I'm not even a "Tasker in the HoF" guy). Steve Tasker never returned a kick or a punt for a TD. Not sure about blocks. But man, a guy who is a reliable special-teams tackler is worth something in this league. Tasker was the best of the best, but I'm not going to knock a guy who does that job well.
simpleman Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 While he is not there yet, I definitely think of Tasker when watching Easley. Now if we could just get a chance to see what Easley can do on the field as a receiver.

But man, a guy who is a reliable special-teams tackler is worth something in this league. Tasker was the best of the best, but I'm not going to knock a guy who does that job well. Tasker blocked 7 kicks, and no doubt pressured many punters into bad kicks. I know he didn't return any kicks for TD's, but if you are rushing the kicker, you aren't going to be receiving the punt, are you? I just mentioned it because it is a big Special Teams achievement (and Easley has done neither as far as I know). Where did I knock Easley? By saying he doesn't compare to the guy that is generally considered an all-time NFL great? He is doing a good job!
eSJayDee Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 I don't ever recall Tasker returning KOs (Easley does, but he never gets a chance to actually return them). Tasker didn't return punts til late in his career & as I recall, didn't enjoy it. He wasn't a particularly good returner, but one thing he was EXCELLENT about was that he fielded EVERYTHING and reliably so punters seldom got the advantage of roll distance.
Gasjuggler Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 When Tasker played there was a year when he was the fastest player on the team.
Donald Duck Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 His special teams play gives an indication of how hard Easley would be to defend against as a WR in my opinion.
Gasjuggler Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 If they would have played Tasker in the slot instead of outside he would have put up big numbers like Welker.
BillsFanM.D. Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 I think Easley is a guy who 'barely' made an NFL team and has great appreciation for it. Speculation on my part....but I'd bet the guy would run full speed into a brick wall if Coach asked him to. He is doing everything he can to make sure he 'sticks.' That includes playing very well on special teams.
NoSaint Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Nothing against Easley but he is more Sam Aiken than Tasker so far, id call that fair - and i think its in no way an insult. aiken was a very good special teamer, and i just think we jump reaaaally quick to comparing guys to hall of famers (or in this case, candidates).
