MAGIC MAN Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Good decision -- Powell seemed intimidated by spotlight and pressure situations. Who's coming in Moorman ?
VirginiaMike Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 For all you guys complementing Powell's average - his NET avg (which is the important stat) is 35.2. That's good for 32nd in the league. He's had 35 punts and only 5 fair catches. He's had more punts returned than all but one punter and leads the league in touchbacks. His average per return is good for 4th worst in the league. All that and the stat everybody is complementing him on - average - is good for only 15th in the league. To be fair he has more punts than anybody in the league but even accounting for that his numbers are horrible. Compare that to someone like Lanning (Cleveland's punter) who averages 2 yards less per kick but has a net that is 4 yards better, has over twice as many fair catches and just 2 touchbacks. He also allows 6 yards less per return. It's called HANG TIME. Kicking it long and low and allowing returns over and over again might look good on your avg but it kills a team. Spot on statistics here! Thanks for spelling them out. These tell the story as to why he was cut.
MAGIC MAN Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Spot on statistics here! Thanks for spelling them out. These tell the story as to why he was cut. How much of the blame should be on Crossman ? -- he was the one coaching hire that Marrone made that raised some eyebrows given the rankings on his special team units on other teams
YoloinOhio Posted October 4, 2013 Author Posted October 4, 2013 Powell is cut, but Carpenter's mullet has not. Just looking for positivity as usual.
Kelly the Dog Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Those complaining about the ST coach, the FG team has been tremendous, the KO team has been tremendous, the PR team lost their star player and has been decent. Only the P team has been bad.
ChevyVanMiller Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Good decision -- Powell seemed intimidated by spotlight and pressure situations. Who's coming in Moorman ? "Buffalo might consider re-signing Powell’s chief training camp competition in Brian Stahovich. Stahovich is currently a free agent." Last line from the report.
26CornerBlitz Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 (edited) Powell has been far too inconsistent. The Bills should be auditioning Punters very soon. As I was saying....Should have happened sooner. Powell has had a shank or two, but other than that he's been VERY solid this season. Audition punters? Yeah, no. That would be a YEAH! Yes, thank you. Guy has had a great season (might have single-handedly kept us in the NE game), shanks 2 punts now all of a sudden fans are (literally) calling for his job... Not sure what you were looking at, but Powell needed to go. This. The Powell hatred is really getting old. I guess people are still heartbroken over 'team MVP Brian Moorman' . Powell has been absolutely fine this season. Obviously he was told to not punt it to the return guy on the 3d one last night and hence the 29 yarder out of bounds. Wrong! CSBill Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 So, with all this focus on getting a new QB, we're heard nothing about a punter. And as we saw in Cleveland, a bad punter can cost you a game quicker than a walk into the kitchen to resupply the chip bowl. Any hints?
Billsfan369 Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 I am much more confident with Carpenter than I EVER was with Lindell. He is looking Pretty darn good!!!!
