Jim in Anchorage Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 So I'm in the store looking for Mozzarella cheese. Nothing but low fat part skim garbage. So I give up and go to buy milk. 5 doors on the dairy cooler for low fat,%2 fat and no fat milk, [basically colored water] one for whole milk. The insult is they sell the cream they remove from these "healthy" products for top dollar. Why are fat people buying milk and cheese anyway? Look fat people buy your wheat thins and leave my food alone. I even saw "low fat" bacon. If you're fat why are you eating bacon?
Doc Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Don't knock skim milk. You get used to the lack of fat. It's the only milk I'll drink now.
Chef Jim Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 I don't have a problem finding whole milk. I don't drink it I make cheese with it. But I do agree that it can be frustrated finding something that's real. Try locating sour cream.

KD in CA Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 We buy organic milk for the kids and the 2% tastes pretty good.
Jim in Anchorage Posted September 29, 2013 Author Posted September 29, 2013 Don't knock skim milk. You get used to the lack of fat. It's the only milk I'll drink now. Why exactly do I need to get used to the lack of fat? I am thin, work hard in a cold climate and need calories. That's how I keep warm and work all day..,

Personally I can't stand whole milk, even in tea. Even 2% is too creamy for me now.

Why are you buying anything labeled "milk" at all?
BuffaloBud Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Maybe they make low fat food tasteless because if it tasted good you would eat more of it - thus negating the low fat feature.
Chef Jim Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Maybe they make low fat food tasteless because if it tasted good you would eat more of it - thus negating the low fat feature. Or it could be that fat is what gives food it's flavor. Google larding.
BuffaloBud Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Or it could be that fat is what gives food it's flavor. Google larding. That I knew.
Chef Jim Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 That I knew. I assumed you did. That's why a ribeye tastes so good and a filet mignon is so so. Nice and tender but so so flavor wise.
BuffaloBillsForever Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Come to think of it. Why do they put a date on sour cream? Are they expecting it to go good? Sour cream definitely goes bad.
Jim in Anchorage Posted September 29, 2013 Author Posted September 29, 2013 Oh another thing. Ice cream made with lo fat milk is not ice cream. It's ice milk and should be labeled as such. Again why are they catering to the lardo's who want to eat 2 gallons of ice cream for a snack and still feel good about themselves because it was "lite" ice cream?
Doc Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 I pray for your culinary soul....or lack thereof. I'm talking about drinking it/putting it in cereal or tea. As for my culinary soul, I don't cook. I leave that to the experts, namely my wife. You know they sell water and white food coloring I assume? Why are you buying anything labeled "milk" at all? Like I said, I used to think like you do.

Give me one reason I should eat fake cheese and drink gutted milk.
Doc Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 And what "enlightened" you? Is this a artery thing? Give me one reason I should eat fake cheese and drink gutted milk. You can do what you want. Moderation is the key.
ExiledInIllinois Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Don't knock skim milk. You get used to the lack of fat. It's the only milk I'll drink now. Is it true that skim milk is worse for acne? Especially teenagers. I read that somewhere and I am not sure if it is true? Try locating sour cream. What does this mean? Is the sour cream they sell not really "sour cream?" Sour cream seems to be the easiest thing to find in the dairy case... All different kinds and brands!
Jim in Anchorage Posted September 30, 2013 Author Posted September 30, 2013 You can do what you want. Moderation is the key. Moderation in what? Drinking real milk and eating real cheese? Where not talking whiskey here. How is a glass of whole milk going to hurt me? Am I a walking heart attack?
