boyst Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 Today I am breaking out the old square baler. The first time in about 6 years I have messed with it. I used it that time to get some hay up after my round baler broke. I did about 40 bales, nothing much. Other then that this thing hasn't been used in probably 15-16 years. Or, when I was 16 myself. That's a long time ago and if you're Beerball or just slow at math, I am 32 now. As many of you know my farm has been handed down from my grandpa to us now. As I worked on the baler, greasing and lubing it for an hour and working the bugs out I notice an old tool box. I opened it up and found a few wrenches, a hammer, and some tines. (In the picture you'll see vice grips, and screw driver I tossed in there before taking the photo.) But, it has had me thinking for the last hour the history of that little box, the last time those tools were touched was a very long time ago and most likely by my grandpa. There they were, a hidden treasure of his that I was thrilled to find. They're just some tools but I never knew that box was there because I had so rarely used this baler when I was a kid. I did use it. I started running the baler when I was 11 or 12 because I was too small to throw the bales around as fast as my brother and gramps. When I turned 13 or 14 my sister would drive it for about 5 minutes before getting scared and jumping off. This is not just a LAMP post because I am curious what all ya'll have come across that has standed the test of time in some basement closet, under some tire out back, or right in front of your face. So, what have you found that you have had similar emotions/feelings/stories with? A few other neat things I have found: - In an old mason jar in a tool shed I found tax receipts from the 1900-10's to a guy that lived next to our property. - An old tie-rod to either a Model A or B car, my gramps couldn't remember which it would have been but it was laying under a wood pie. - A distributor cap to a 40's or 50's model Ford was underneath the chicken house. - Arrowheads all over, and other indian stuff. - Years and years of birthday cards from "us" to my grandparents in a zip lock bag in an outbuilding, all saved and nearly mint.

Guffalo Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 Translation....He used to get laid regularly, but since a "change in venue" he is now single, and as such has not been able to engage in sexual congress in quite some time.
Pete Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 I have done a few chaotic moves since the early 90s and there was a trunk I had stored in the attic that I hadn't opened until this past year. So when I moved into my new place, I finally opened that trunk and found many treasures- notes from girls, my old funnel, cassette tapes, old notebooks. But my favorite discovery was two tshirts from 94 that I never wore. One was a tie-dyed 1994 woodstock(Yeagers farm-not the meatheadfest) tshirt. I wear it all the time now(like now) and constantly get compliments on it

BuffaloBill Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 Square bales are cool. My first paying job was bringing in square baled hay.
