B-Man
Media Lose Interest in Navy Murders Due to Lack of Anti-Gun Narrative In Thursday's Washington Post, Paul Farhi laments the fact that the mainstream media has already decided to drop the Navy Yard massacre and focus on other things like the "Hiccup Girl Trial" and Britney Spears. Farhi blames many things, including (naturally) racism, but is not at all interested in exploring the real reason for the indifference of his media colleagues: The fact is that the media is never interested in stories that don't offer them political upside. Had an AR-15 actually been used in this week's terrible Navy Yard murders, there is no question that the massacre would still be leading the national conversation as the media pushed to ban "assault weapons." Had the shooter bought any one of his weapons at a gun show where no background check was performed, the media would be overdosing on this story with a renewed push to expand background checks. Had the shooter been a white, Christian, Tea Partier, the media would be delivering the news with glassy eyes and their pants around their ankles. {snip} Unless events overcome, when it comes to what drives our media narrative, it is always stories that push a left-wing agenda -- that offer political upside. This week's shooting was committed by a black, Buddhist Obama supporter who used the Vice President's weapon of choice -- a shotgun. So, naturally, the media has lost interest. Hundreds of children are gunned down in Chicago every year. But the media doesn't care about black children being murdered by mostly black people in a city that is supposed to be a liberal utopia and passed some of the strictest gun control laws in the country. Why? Because there is no political upside in telling that story. This philosophy holds true for many things, not just guns. Yesterday we learned that 180,000 mostly working poor employees of Walgreens will lose their health insurance due to the cost of ObamaCare. The media doesn't care about "those" working poor because protecting ObamaCare is more important. No left-wing political upside, no media coverage. http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Journalism/2013/09/19/media-loses-interest-in-navy-shooting-anti-gun-narrative

Koko78
Video of the shooter with his AR-15 shotgun.... http://www.wsoctv.co...-alexis/vCDKtD/ That looked like an assault shotgun to me, using the NY definition of 'assault weapon' as anything that looks scary. Let's pass stupid laws to ban everything so that people who are going to ignore the law and do as they please anyhow will be discouraged from illegally obtaining firearms to illegally discharge them at people, illegally killing them. You know, cause people who ignore the law to murder people will follow gun control laws.

It's the guns fault. Duh. We just have to make the guns illegal, then criminals wont use them!
DC Tom
Just talked to a woman at work here who has friends working in the building. Whose boss was shot. Apparently, the shootings were not "at random"...although there's no apparent pattern so far, all those shot were civilian supervisors. One guy heard the shots, ducked under his desk, and had the shooter walk by him, go up to his boss, and shoot them. Another was talking to another victim, and the shooter walked up and shot the victim, leaving the other guy alone.

I fired a guy once and shortly after he killed his girlfriend. When they finally caught him that asked what went wrong. He said it all started when he was fired as a cook from a restaurant. I think I dodged one there. I could have been next. Edited September 26, 2013 by Chef Jim

Chef Jim
That wasn't John Sweeney, was it? No I worked with Sweeney way before this guy. Funny thing is I worked with the second guy in LA and he was from NYC. His brother was murdered in Attica (3 miles from where I grew up) while serving time for......murder. Chef Jim
Well...if I ever need someone killed, I'm starting my search for a hit man in a kitchen... Just remembered another guy I worked with. He was from El Salvador and was real quiet. Nice guy. Well that was until he killed his wife and two kids then slit his own throat in jail. Yeah I worked with some winners.

Chef Jim
I never met any murderers (that I know of), but the restaurants I worked in once upon a time were very much based in sex and drugs. Seeing I worked in Hollywood for most of the 80's we had a lot of people in the music industry that we worked with. So it was sex drugs and rock & roll. I worked at a place with Virgin Records (very small at the time) across the street and EMI upstairs. We started a softball league and had Timothy Leary throw out the first pitch. I worked at another place with Jet Records upstairs. My wife worked for their lawyer and she came in to the kitchen on day and told me "guess what, I have Ozzy's Tribute album demo tapes in the trunk of my car". Oh and if you worked in a restaurant you definitely worked with a murderer or at least a future murderer. You just didn't know it.
