OCinBuffalo
People die. You're an idiot. Those are just 2 of the facts of life. When I know more about what happened I might have some comments concerning it. What's the topic of this forum again? 1 fact of life: DC is already a gun-free zone. 1 puzzling question: How could this possibly happen in a gun-free zone, as gun-free zones ensure 0 gun-violence issues. After all the politicization of Newtown, and GZ/TM...gatorman wants to know why we would be ahead of the curve politically? Perhaps because gator lives his life behind the curve? Chef Jim
Way to make this political on here! Gees, the comments section of the SF Chronical?? Did anyone post anything else of value? I'm sorry about me making it political here. Remind me not to talk football on TSW, that is if I ever really cared about posting over there. No, no posts of value there. Most of them sounding like you.
Captain Caveman
I have a deal for these people. A county gets to take away one handgun for every person, on any form of assistance, that passes my tests(logic, history, civics and physical). They will have to take that test, every year, if they've received any form of government benefits, not including SSI/Medicare, in that year. For every person that fails, one new, permanent, handgun permit will be made available in that county. If you want to remove my handgun, you will need to ensure that there aren't any stupid people, that you've kept stupid, via your nonsense entitlement programs, in my area. That's a perfectly acceptable compromise. If liberal plans succeed, then they(and in the big picture, all of us) are rewarded by getting something they want. If they fail? Then we are allowed to protect ourselves from their failure. Gotcha, more stupidity should mean more guns.

I swear, Nancy Grace just screamed that same thing... [my point: out of control is a bit of misnomer and is misused just like everyone using the term epic now]

[my point: out of control is a bit of misnomer and is misused just like everyone using the term epic now] No, it's kind of an obvious point, isn't it? I mean it takes thirteen people butchered at once to get the media to pay attention. As Tom pointed out, this happens all the time but in separate incidents. Media ignores though

Tiberius
After he went nuts in 2004 and shot out the tires of a car his father said that he was suffering from shell shock from Sept 11!! He was at the world trade centers on that day?!? Crazy!

Is one individual instance different then 12? Your logic is not too sound. Mine is flawed, likely, but that's expected.

B-Man
‘Universal Background Checks’? Not So Fast . . . By Charles C. W. Cooke According to the Washington Post, Aaron Alexis had a security clearance that was updated as recently as July. Moreover, NBC4 reports that Alexis bought the shotgun that he used from a licensed dealer in Virginia — passing a federal NICS background check in the process — and then stole the other two weapons from his victims. When it was over, Alexis lay dead amid an armload of weapons. Sources told News4 that surveillance footage showed that he began his attack with a shotgun, but was found with a 9mm pistol and an AR-15 assault rifle. NBC News correspondent Pete Williams is reporting Alexis purchased a shotgun in Lorton, Va. during the past week or so. So, here we have a man who passed a bunch of background checks and legally bought from a licensed dealer a weapon that is available even in England. Given their record of asking for new laws that have absolutely nothing to do with the crimes they use for emotional leverage, we should thus expect our friends on the Left to push immediately for a ban on the private sale of AR-15s and for the extension of background checks to private sales. If Aaron Alexis is indeed the shooter in the Navy Yard massacre, he will not serve as a particularly strong example of the apparent “need” for “universal background checks” that the failed Toomey-Manchin bill sought to meet. For a start, Alexis was discharged from the Navy in 2011. This means that, in order to join, he passed a federal background check of precisely the sort that progressives wish to extend to private firearms sales. Alexis allegedly also had a concealed-carry permit. In most states, including Texas, the CCW application process involves criminal background checks conducted at both the state and federal levels. (Alternatively, CCW permits are often issued to military personnel who have already been vetted by Uncle Sam.) If confirmed as the perpetrator, Alexis will join a long line of killers who would easily have got through a background check. Conversely, Alexis does seem to back up the disparaged-but-reasonable line that the gun laws need enforcing not changing. According to news reports, Alexis had previously shot at his own ceiling and also shot the tires out of someone’s car in a dispute. On neither occasion was he charged. Then he looted an AR and a pistol during the spree. So we obviously need stricter controls on civilian ownership of weapons that security was carrying. DC Tom
They're REALLY hammering the "How'd he get a security clearance?" question on the local news this morning. It's proving very fun, listening to every "expert" they trot out demonstrate that they have absolutely no idea how a background investigation is conducted.
