BuffaloBill Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 The majority are not returnable. To me we have lost a key part of the game but I guess safety trumps the return game. http://espn.go.com/blog/statsinfo/post/_/id/52047/kickoff-move-impacts-return-frequency
Max997 Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 (edited) What makes it even worse is there are usually commercials before and after the kickoff Edited September 15, 2013 by Max997
nucci Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Not meaningless to me. I almost screamed when Carpenter squibbed that last kick so Carolina was close to mid-field at the end.
RuntheDamnBall Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 It's totally a shame. But I don't want to see guys get hurt either.
Doc Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Not meaningless to me. I almost screamed when Carpenter squibbed that last kick so Carolina was close to mid-field at the end. Yeah. If they'd had Hopkins, he would have booted it out of the endzone and it wouldn't have even been that close.
boyst Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Yeah. If they'd had Hopkins, he would have booted it out of the endzone and it wouldn't have even been that close. sarcasm? I am pretty sure that squib was design.
Fixxxer Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 What makes it even worse is there are usually commercials before and after the kickoff This, it's too much and a big reason I barely watch other games.
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 I would like to see the kickoff line changed and moved back for the 4th qtr-- at least give us some returns when the game is on the line
John in Jax Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Tell this to the Bears after today's opening kickoff.
RyanC883 Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 I would like to see the kickoff line changed and moved back for the 4th qtr-- at least give us some returns when the game is on the line This is a good idea. I like it. The rest of the time they can just skip them. They are pointless, and I'm not sure how much safety is gained given that people are still blocking and shedding blocks in case someone takes the ball out of the endzone.
Rockinon Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 I have been unhappy since the rule change. Kickoffs used to be one of the single most exciting plays of the game. Buffalo has had some great return men and still do. Moving the ball up so every kicker in the league can force a touchback is just plain horrible for this game.
Doc Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 sarcasm? I am pretty sure that squib was design. The squib was by design because Carpenter is unreliable on KO's.
RayFinkle Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 The majority are not returnable. To me we have lost a key part of the game but I guess safety trumps the return game. http://espn.go.com/b...eturn-frequency That is an article from 2012 citing stats from 2010....just sayin.
Tu-Toned Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 (edited) Yes we should care, and it sucks, but with the NFL just doling out I don't know how many Millions in the concussion suit, I don't believe we will see any changes soon. Edited September 16, 2013 by Tu-Toned
BuffaloBill Posted September 16, 2013 Author Posted September 16, 2013 I suppose the squib kick yesterday left some questions in the game but I hate the loss of this aspect of the game. It certainly does call for very strong legged kickers as the best strategy does seem to kick it either very deep in the end zone or out of the end zone. It will be interesting to see how wind conditions play into the situation later in the season.
