snydert317 Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 That's what we hoped to get for the big bucks. He was a beast, but props to a DC who has a freakin' clue on how to use the big guy. This
prissythecat Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 I still think its a shame we didn't get Skelton .
26CornerBlitz Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 I still think its a shame we didn't get Skelton . Red Skelton died many years ago..definitely a shame in any case.
DC Greg Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Mario was huge. As with Leo, his big sacks were almost ALL at times when we ABSOLUTELY needed them. He's a player that can really rise to the occasion (similar to last year when he showed up big for the Indy game, which was really a "win and you are in position to compete for a playoff spot" game), That's definitely something we've been missing over the years. If we let a QB pose back there, or run, we get destroyed. This guy is not someone who can be single blocked or forgotten about. A couple of his sacks were just awesome hustle and relentless pursuit + the speed to get there. If he keeps that level of effort up... scary good.
dayman Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Mario had an amazing game. By far his best game as a Bill. Perhaps one of his best ever. Big showing. Had pressure when it counted too, 3rds and whatnot. Amazing. Loved it.
l< j Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Just curious: does anyone know what the league record for single game sacks is? kj
l< j Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Answered my only question: Derrick Thomas had 7 once, vs. Seahawks in 1990. Wow. Mario is now tied for 15th with a whole bunch of players. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/leaders/sacks_single_game.htm
aristocrat Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 we need him to keep it going against the jets next week. the pressure he brought was incredible. He could of had 2-3 other sacks but cam was just slippery
thebug Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Why the hell is Mario even playing with plantars fasciitis? He needs to sit until he's 100% and not a moment before. GO BILLS!!! :worthy: :worthy: :worthy:
Webster Guy Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 He was exploding into the Olinemen, like literally winding up and then unCoiling his upper body into the blockers and it was like they were stunned for a second or two. they always say great pass rushers win in hand control, body lean (leverage) and pursuit to the whistle. He owned those chumps today. And Lawson is like MarioLite out there. He crushed Cam on that sack. Both amazing physical specimens and relentless warriors today......
Drifter Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Wait a minute, you can play with plantar fascitis?
simpleman Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Wait a minute, you can play with plantar fascitis? Yes, but not when it worsens into “ Whiner Planned Fakeitis”
2020 Our Year For Sure Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Check out Mario postgame comments on bb.com. Gives the coaches and his teammates credit for helping him feel "at peace" in a way he never did last season. They say EJ is not an emotional guy- well Mario is. He needs the right atmosphere in the locker room to perform his best, and I think this year we have it. Good point by Webster Guy re: leverage. On one sack the way he dipped his inside shoulder underneath the OT to get the leverage advantage and free himself, was a thing of beauty.
stony Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 On his second (or maybe his third I don't remember) I think he pulled out a mini-Deacon Jones head slap to dip inside. Loved it.
Over 29 years of fanhood Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Gotta give the guy props. 4.5 sacks today? Are you kidding me? He was dominant. Nearly had two more.
ricojes Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Yes, but not when it worsens into “ Whiner Planned Fakeitis” Yep, there are different degrees of PF and it's different for everyone. I have had it and it sucks. But it's impossible to diagnose the severity. I would hope as a professional athlete, Byrd wouldn't play it up as worse than it is. But you know his agent is in his ear saying don't make it worse... As for Mario, he was a beast. Someone references 2 missed tackles (of course, have to love this board). I don't know about that, on the one play where Newton turned away, Mario never had a grasp, but he definitely brought the pressure. All around great game for 94. I couldn't wait to see him in action with a real DC, this could be a huge season for him...

tennesseeboy Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 I'm happy to see Mario delivering what we expected when we first got him. If he keeps this up and keeps inspiring the defense we are going to make some noise this year.
