ExiledInIllinois Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 (edited) Death & national holidays synonymous with consumerism: Memorial Day: "Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday which occurs every year on the final Monday of May.Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces." Labor Day: "Following the deaths of a number of workers at the hands of the U.S. military and U.S. Marshals during the Pullman Strike, the United States Congress unanimously voted to approve rush legislation that made Labor Day a national holiday; President Grover Cleveland signed it into law a mere six days after the end of the strike." IMO, I think it is tacky for the golf course. Would they have a Pearl Harbor Day special? The two above get a pass because they mark the start & end of the "summer season." Memorial Day can easily be tied to consumersim and freedom because of the brave men and woman who lost their lives for the "American way." Labor Day should be a national day of rest from business but, it is not... And the true meaning is so long in the past. Again, I can't think of any precedent outside of Pearl Harbor Day... And nobody EVER went there. Why this? Boo and shame on the "clueless" (that is what they are claiming) golf course! Just my $.02. Edited September 12, 2013 by ExiledInIllinois
billsfanmiami(oh) Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Would be a lot better if maybe they charged $9.11 and made up the difference between normal greens fees. The extra going to a charity supporting victims of the attacks or something related. Good pub for the course, may bring in some additional business, and the little extra loot goes towards a good cause. Win win.
Nanker Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Not to hijack this thread, but isn't this also the stock in trade of politicians who seize upon calamities, tragedies, and catastrophes to further their own agendas? The natural revulsion that many have toward such crude, base, and crass attempts to leverage human tragedy to serve their own means isn't reserved for commercial enterprises that step in **** when they attempt to manipulate the population like this. It happens a lot.
