Rico Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 saw this topic on another board... My top 3: 1. Mick Taylor leaves the Stones, replaced by Ron Wood. Woody is cool, but no other band in history can touch the Taylor-era Stones. 2. Kenney Jones replaces Keith Moon. No way Jones could replace the greatest drummer in rock history, RIP Moonie. 3. Peter Green leaves Fleetwood Mac. Brilliant blues to AM pop. Honorable mention: Peter Gabriel leaves Genesis.
Rico Posted January 14, 2005 Author Posted January 14, 2005 Uh, David Lee Roth... 205698 The Just A Gigolo guy?
BF_in_Indiana Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 Oh I love these topics. These aren't actually bad changes, but here's a few. Bon Scott dies and is replaced in AC/DC. Dave Mustaine is fired from Metallica and replaced by Kirk Hammett Keith Moon dies and is replaced The ever changing lineup of Jefferson Airplane/Starship whatever (these are bad)
RkFast Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 Cant say Rhodes or Bon Scott....they died for Chrissakes. And The Johnson AC/DC put out some hella good albums. And you cant say Mustaine, either. There is NO WAY Metallica would have survived with the overinflated egos of Hammet, Ulrich AND Mustaine. This argument begins and ends with David Lee Roth and Van Halen.
sfladave Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 Uh, David Lee Roth... 205698 Ditto...it's not even close. Sammy "my vocals sound the same on every song" Haggar was horrible.
Pete Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 Donna Godchaux singing for the Dead. She sounds like a dying banshee. Too bad because otherwise that period the Dead kicked

The split with Diamond Dave wasn't as bad as them firing Sammy and hiring GARY CHERONE!!! I like Van Halen 3 actually, but it was a total flop and Cherone didn't fit the band at all.
Rico Posted January 14, 2005 Author Posted January 14, 2005 Donna Godchaux singing for the Dead. She sounds like a dying banshee. Too bad because otherwise that period the Dead kicked 205722 Agree she's horrible, though I've kinda gotten used to her.
HudsonValleyBillsFan Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 Ditto...it's not even close. Sammy "my vocals sound the same on every song" Haggar was horrible. 205717 I have to disagree. "Right Now" is probably in my top ten list of all-time favorite songs. I think VH thrived under Hagar. However, I do think the guy after Hagar deserves to be on this list.
linksfiend Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 The Just A Gigolo guy? 205700 David Lee Roth. Hands Down. Just because he can't write his own songs doesn't mean he wasn't a great frontman for VH. Honarable mention: George Tutuska leaving the Goo Goo Dolls. Their endless parade of prom themes started once George left.
/dev/null Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 Dave Mustaine is fired from Metallica and replaced by Kirk Hammett205712 that was a change for the good. mustaine's ego and vices would have killed metallica still not sure if the switch from jason newstead to robert trujillo has been a good or bad thing
IDBillzFan Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 Jerry Garcia. Have you seen the people left who still follow the Dead?
KD in CA Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 Ginger leaving the Spice Girls. They were never the same.
RkFast Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 Jerry Garcia. Have you seen the people left who still follow the Dead? 205739 Have you been to a show from "The Dead"?
stevewin Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 Michael McDonald for Tommy Johnston - Doobie Brothers
BRH Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 Springsteen dropping the E Street Band in the late '80s. I liked the stuff he put out during that period, but as far as live shows go, he needs the E Streeters -- and not just any band -- backing him.
