Every generation seems to have their version of this controversy. Recall that Elvis was seen as inappropriate for shaking his hips. The bit that is perhaps a bit troubling in my mind is just the lack of thought that goes into it now. I have nothing against sexiness nor sex or that matter. I do have a strong dislike of stupidity especially if it is done purely to get attention. That is what this display was.

Twerking is cool,I even like when skinny assed little 20 year olds do it. I used to go to a club on St, Marks place in NYC in the early 90s which a lot of black people went to and they all danced like that. It was/is sexy. I have no problem with it being on TV.

Uh shes already well on her way to the drugs

That was clear by her bizarre insistence on waving her tongue around throughout the 'performance.'

I can't believe whatever show coordinator they have didn't put the kibosh on the whole thing. It just sucked.

The whole thing was an avant garde sex nightmare. Thanks to Lady Gaga, popular music has turned into a contest for who can be the strangest. Is it safe to say that Top 40, and all its glorious corporate machinations has official jumped the shark?

what else is she gonna do?

Sit back and spend the rest of life shoving c-notes where the sun don't shine?

What else does she have to do? Ms. Montana's got plenty of the green to survive.

I pull better looking women biweekly. What repulsed me? She looks like a little girl to me. Kate is same age, and looks like a women. Miley didn't even sing the first 40 seconds or so, did that ridiulous tongue hanging out(it reminded me of a slobbering dog), she made me feel uncomfortable watching because with her littler girl figure, teddybears, skinny legs- it reminded me of those calvin klein/abercrombie kid porn ads. And it is such a turnoff to me when someone with banal looks thinks she is the hottest thing in the world. Keep it real

She did not. She's petite which is totally different.

Grow her hair, put her in a business suit, and maybe some glasses, and she becomes "normal' again. Even pretty.

The only thing I found over the top was her backing it up on Mr.Thicke. And really just cuz he's married. If he was single, it would be part of the act. But I'm more flexible when it comes to these things....

not at all. I don't watch TV. Yet somehow I hear about honeybooboo, kardashian, Miley. Honestly the first time I ever seen miley was drudge linking to the post about last nights slutfest. I watched for about 90 seconds, and could not take any more. American culture today seems so foreign to me. I am embarrassed by what pass's as American culture today

This is one of the reasons I'm really pulling for a zombie apocalypse. I would LOVE, I mean LOVE to see the Kardashians, Miley Cyrus, Lindsay Lohan, the cast of the Jersey Shore, Paris Hilton and pretty much every reality "star" ever being viciously devoured by a pack of blood crazed, brain eating zombies.

I think the show "Survivor" started this nonsense. In a way, the name was very apropos, we'll all be luck to survive the stupidity.

I have looked up definitions, looked at videos, etc. and still cannot figure out exactly what twerking is???

skank. She repulses me. And most 20 year old girls turn me on, so it takes much for a 20 year old to repulse me

Nothing sexy about her acting like a whore. Would stay away just because I would be afraid I'd catch something. Edited by Dante

American culture to me is Walt Whitmann, F Scott Fitzgerald and Ralph Waldo Emerson. Louis Armstrong, Miles and Trane. Keruac, Bukowski, and Wolfe. Orson Wells, Chaplin and Keaton. Timothy O'Sullivan, Ansel Adams, and Jackson Pollock. Jazz, Baseball, National Parks,

Today is seems American culture is corporate pop stars, tramp stamps, self absorbed selfish people who like to take and post pictures of themselves- and flash hand signs. What the !@#$ happened to this country? Do people have character anymore?

She's not a good twerker, either. She's really not a good anything.

Anyway, the best way I can describe twerking is this:

Bending over with legs further than shoulder width apart.

Moving nothing but your ass, as fast as you can, side to side.

C'mon, grandpa. We've had plenty of culture since 1960.

So a skank needs to be sexy to you in order to have class? Well guess what, she's still a skank.

Kate is keeping it real. She is sexy as hell eating a burger. She is sexy as hell when she sneezes. She does not need to go to extravagant lengths to try and sell that she is sexy. And I don't know much about her character. I just enjoy looking at her
