aussiew Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Just cried my way through a story on Chris and how he gave up his career with the Bills to support his wife, Stefanie, through her fight with cancer. It was on NFL network. If any of you get a chance to watch it - keep your Kleenex handy.
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 I saw that. One of the best "football life" episodes they have done. What a quality human being.
San Jose Bills Fan Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 While I think Chris will always be viewed by NFL followers as a Detroit Lion, I'm just happy that he was associated with the Buffalo Bills. It's an honor for an organization to have such a person play for them.
boyst Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 The NFLN got it right when they did the story on him. His daughter is inspiring, as well. The entire family. It is a shame they cover folks like Ray Lewis in the same light.

Great man
billsfanmiami(oh) Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Short tenure, but one of my all time favorite Bills. A true role model. They had it on at B dubs but no volume so still haven't seen it. Sometime ill catch it on the DVR. Hoping one of these days ill run into him in cbus and can shake his hand.
Shamrock Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 It's the kind of documentary about a player you needn't worry about a Facebook style "like" button!
Beerball Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 OSU had a commercial running last football season...fans could vote to build the best football player using traits of prior players. If I were a fan I would have put him down for darn near every category. Brilliant football player.
JÂy RÛßeÒ Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 My favorite jersey of every one in my closet. I won't wear it cause the numbers are starting to peel. Look up "football player" and "great human being" in the dictionary and they both have pictures of him.
ajzepp Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Chris Spielman is a Man...capital "M". Some of my best memories as a Bills fan were when he and Damien Covington were in the middle of our 3-4. Like you guys, I'm proud that he played part of his career in our red, white and blue. It's a cliche, but they really did break the mold with that dude.

I guess when you're born in Canton, Ohio like Spielman it's not a surprise that you evoke images of Chuck Bednarik, Joe Schmidt, and Ray Nitschke.
Lt. Dan's Revenge Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 I'm only in my mid-twenties, and I remember when I was young and just starting to get real into the Bills, Spielman was my favorite and the first jersey I can remember having. NO ONE played the game harder than that guy. Quintessential pro. Quintessential human being. He's doing a lot of good in honor of his late wife.

Dean Cain Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Was just in his hometown, Massillon Ohio. Dude is a football god & even better person.
ajzepp Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 I used to be a huge Brett Favre fan....he was always my favorite non-Bills player. Interesting to contrast the way he's handled his wife's cancer with how Spielman handled his. Spielman focuses on doing everything he can for her and to raise money for the cause, while Brett is out sending penis pics to women half his age. Still can't believe he did that...what a dbag.
billsfanmiami(oh) Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 I've brought this up before but literally the day after Stefanie passed away he was on the air in his normal spot on Cbus sports radio taking calls. Said she would have told him to go to work. I listened to the whole thing. Caller after caller of cancer survivors, people with family members battling it, people who simply met them at the store, etc. It was a great tribute and was just a small sampling of how many lives have been touched through their work.
aussiew Posted August 21, 2013 Author Posted August 21, 2013 And even better...he married his high school sweetheart. No long line of baby mamas or mistresses.
Sarah Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 You should read his book. Just a great player and husband. It should be read by all football fans.
jeanbe Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Maddie sounds like an outstanding young woman with a loving family around her. I watched the NFL program the other day and it brought tears to my eyes at their strength as a family to deal with cancer. I lost my mom at 25 and dad at 29 to cancer and it is tough. I salute the Spielman family in their continuation in the fight against this horrible disease. I adore Chris for putting family first and for Maddie, and the other children, for having the support system to get them and her to this level to continue the fight.
