BuffOrange Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Ya fans never want to believe it when their opponents shoot poorly (Cuse fans are as guilty as anyone) but 3pt% defense is basically random (2pt% D is not). http://kenpom.com/blog/index.php/weblog/entry/the_boeheim_exception UNC did not make a 41% 3pt team shoot 20% - if that's a skill they're a favorite to win the national title. They also seem to have an odd fascination with long 2pt jumpers. Playing some nice ball though for sure.
Johnny Hammersticks Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Agree to disagree on that. Great defense caused that egg. UNC team should be the real deal next year with a better Kennedy Meeks and experience from Tokoto, Paige, Johnson. You Orangemen better take it down this year....it's gonna be all baby blue next year. Have to agree a little bit with Jr there Ryan. While UNC did play pretty solid D, Duke couldn't throw a basketball in the ocean standing on the beach. Hopefully their shooting woes continue tomorrow. Since Ryan brought up next year...how are people thinking about Ennis and Grant sticking around? Personally, I am becoming confident that Grant will stick around. I think he knows that without a jump shot, he really doesn't have a position in the NBA. Another year would truly be the best choice for him if his goal is to have a career in the NBA. Fortunately, he has his uncle and father to give him good advice. I have been thinking all along that Ennis is gone, but recent comments from JB about the subject makes me think he is leaning toward staying another year. JB even eluded to Ennis' father feeling that this might be the best decision for him (can't remember his exact wording). At present, I would guess Ennis is a 50-50. Sort of depends on how he finishes out the season. If he lights up the tourney he might just get an offer he can't refuse from draft scouts. Imagine if both Ennis and Grant stayed. Christmas at the 5, frosh phenom Chris McCullough at the 4, Grant at the 3, great depth at guard with Ennis and Cooney, frosh Caleb Joseph (who is a plug and play starter), Gbinije, and Patterson. Roberson hopefully getting some quality minutes off the bench, and the further development of DC2, BJ Johnson, and Buss Patterson. Could be scary.
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 I am convinced that Ennis stays. If he leaves now, the guy will never play in the NBA enough to develop the jumper and strength he needs. I still think grant is gone though. he doesn't need a jumper to play in the NBA. He will go to the line 10 times per game in the pros.
Maury Ballstein Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Grants gone....he's too strong around the bucket to not be a lotto pick IMO.
Gordio Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Good win for your boys Ryan. Goes to show you that in college basketball it's all about getting hot at the right time. I will say that based on what I have seen from UNC in the past few games, I'd rather Syracuse not face them for the remainder of the season. UNC has proven they could beat any team in the country as evidence by their wins against Kentucky, Louisville, Mich St & now Duke. The thing that concerns me about UNC is they don't shoot the 3 well & they don't shoot free throws well, usually a recipe for disaster come tournament time. They do a lot of other things well though I will say that & they did make their last 10 free throws last night I believe after a horrible start from the charity stripe.
LB3 Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 (edited) Good win for UNC. This should make the SU-Duke game even more interesting IMO. Both teams coming off emotional losses. Duke to their rival. SU coming off an utter embarrassment. Both teams should coming out firing on all cylinders. For the record, I wanted the undefeated season. That said, of all the close games they won, I'm glad that the BC game was the one they lost. Nothing wrong with losing to Pitt in Pitt, and NC State isn't terrible so that could happen to anyone. But BC is AWFUL! That embarrassed them and I think that could end up being a great fire lit underneath them. Remember the Wes Johnson team, embarrassed by Lemoyne, dominant the rest of the year until Butler in the elite 8. I'm thinking (hoping) we'll see the same thing with this team, except we win it all. What say you? Edited February 21, 2014 by KikoSeeBallKikoGetBall

Would have won it all had Onuaku not gotten injured in the BET.

Thinking about that tourney loss vs Blake Griffin and the Sooners still makes my blood boil. Grants gone....he's too strong around the bucket to not be a lotto pick IMO. My brain agrees with you, but my heart tells me Grant has a father and an uncle who had lengthy NBA careers. I think they will advise him to stay. It would be a good decision for him. As someone stated earlier, no, he doesn't need a solid jump shot to be coveted by the NBA. If he wants to be a solid NBA small forward, however, he will need to develop one. I think he stays. Seems like a really smart kid.
LB3 Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 (edited) Worked some overtime today. Now I'm ready to mix up some gin and tonics and enjoy the hell out of this game. Go Cuse! Edited February 22, 2014 by KikoSeeBallKikoGetBall
JM57 Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Big opportunity to make a statement here. They could rebound from the loss in a big way in a hostile environment and possibly not even drop farther than #2.
Maury Ballstein Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Wow guess he really is a plumlee brother. Nice putback slam. Grant shooting and scoring floater right over plumlee is impressive.

Duke needs a real big man one day. Not since Sheldon Williams have they had anything worthwhile but the dude would catch a foul just for sneezing.
Maury Ballstein Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Plumlee is trying to be that guy. Sheldon Williams used to block everything. The landlord! Tie game. Good game.

Cuse is not looking like they're going to win this game.Duke is playing smarter and if this game is going to wind down like the last one that is going to matter. Duke had the foul troubles last time, Cuse this time. I don't see Cuse winning this one, at this point. If they fall and drop 2 in a week in the way it looks like they are going to do this - they'll fall 8 or 9 spots easily. Duke may not fall at all. UNC may crack the top 25 but they do not just deserve it, yet. They'd be better off riding from the outside another week, be the underdogs.

That said I will definitely make a wager with you that cuse doesn't drop 8 or 9 spots... What would you like to bet?
Maury Ballstein Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Boeheim wasn't aware of the duke gets all the calls rules that the ACC refs love so much. Great game from Grant, tough break on the duke flop/ref combo.
