MClem06 Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 (edited) Looking back at this past draft, I can't believe the talent that we took and I am amazed that we have 5 possibly 7 starters to come out of this past draft. The five - Woods, Alonso, Goodwin, Manuel, Hopkins. You could argue that Meeks is the only one out of the draft that does not look to be first string potential. If anyone has attended training camp and has seen Meeks show otherwise, please chime in. Gragg is enormous and i'm hoping that he starts to see more looks the next 3 preseason games. I would love to see two tight ends (Like the Patsies had with gronk and the incarcerated Gonzalez) that have to be respected in the pass game. Chandler and Gragg could be a dynamic twosome. The 7th possible eventual starter is Duke Williams. Recent reports say he has been practicing very well and is extremely aggressive. Can anyone at camp who has observed shed light on Meeks and Williams? Edited August 16, 2013 by MClem06
Over 29 years of fanhood Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Either it was a really great draft or the roster was I that sorry. It's sort of both. LB and WR units were in poor shape as was QB. Still though the only near certain starters at the moment as I understand it are Kiko and Woods. The others are still in the mix.
Tsaikotic Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 (edited) you wanna know when it will be or when it WAS..lol..J/K actually i believe the closest to 5 in recent years would have been in 2009 with 4 rookies - Eric Woods, Jairus Byrd, Adam Levitre and Shawn Nelson...only i can't remember if Nelson was considered the Starter at TE or not...maybe it was Stupar at TE Edited August 16, 2013 by Tsaikotic
NewEra Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 I can't shed much light on Meeks, but Duke looks to be a future starter in this league. He has good cover ability for a safety and really lays the lumber on ball carriers. I love his game and skill set. I see him getting a lot of PT this year and if Byrd isn't retained will be a starter going forward. His "character" issues are the only thing holding him back and is the reason he slipped in the draft. His maturation as a person is the key to his success in the nfl. He certainly has the ability.

But I'm not sure I like the two TE idea if you're suggesting they're on the field together. The Pats ran two TEs because they had two great ones. Their TEs were better than their WRs. Hackett says he'll put our best five skilled position players on the field together as much as he can. I'm not sure either Chandler or Gragg are in the top five, let alone both of them. Our strength is RB and maybe WR.
Max997 Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Goodwin is not going to be a starter this year and as much as I like him prob never will be Dynamic doesn't really come to mind when talking about either Chandler or Gragg It was a good draft no doubt but the roster wasn't exactly loaded to begin with

NoSaint Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Goodwin is our starting KR most likely. if we are stretching into starting special teamers, im guessing the 4-5 rookies thing is, albeit still rare, less uncommon.
Dorkington Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 if we are stretching into starting special teamers, im guessing the 4-5 rookies thing is, albeit still rare, less uncommon. Considering that the ProBowl names a KR specialist (up until this year I guess), I've always "counted" that, myself. But, considering my recent discussions on what a "starter" is, I'll rescind my opinion on the subject.
NoSaint Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 (edited) I'll take a stab; 1960. gilmore, glenn, bradham, powell and potter may have aligned to all start a game together last season i dont think TJ got any "starts," despite playing a lot, and potter is stretching it.... boyst Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 TJ Graham could be considered a faux starter this year. Easley could finally make an active roster and be a real NFL player this year. If you want to get even more technical, these guys will be first time starters...
Cynical Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 2006? Draftees: Donte Whitner John McCargo Ashton Youboty Ko Simpson Kyle Williams Brad Butler Keith Ellison Terrance Pennington Aaron Merz Pennington, Whitner, Simpson, Williams I can't remember if it was from the first game forward, but Ellison ended up being a starter.
BillsGuyInMalta Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 I can't remember if it was from the first game forward, but Ellison ended up being a starter. *shudder* Yes. Yes he did.
