LabattBlue Posted January 13, 2005 Posted January 13, 2005 Jerry Sullivan commentary on Joe Mesi & the Buffalo Common Council.... Column as I see 'em: You'd think the Buffalo Common Council would spend its time on more pressing issues - like rescuing us from decades of uninspired governance and economic ruin. But on Tuesday, the council actually passed a resolution asking the Nevada State Athletic Commission to give Joe Mesi a "fair hearing." What were the Council Members thinking when they decided to stick their noses in Mesi's affairs? Mesi has a hearing scheduled with the Nevada commission to challenge its ruling that he is medically unfit to fight. It's based on several MRIs that show Mesi suffered multiple brain bleeds in his fight against Vassiliy Jirov in Las Vegas last March. What business does the city council have in asking that the hearing be "fair"? Are they suggesting that Mesi is getting a raw deal? Will they be ready to assume liability if Mesi goes back into a boxing ring and dies of a head injury? And weren't they aware that the Mesi camp is suing New York State's athletic commission for releasing his medical records? By backing the Mesis in this sorry affair, the Common Council is spitting in the face of the city's chief financial benefactor - the state. http://www.buffalonews.com/editorial/20050113/1049330.asp PS This coming from a group of elected officials whose city is currently being governed by a control board. Can you say fugged up??
Chalkie Gerzowski Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 wasn't the lead story on the buffalonews site about dissolving the commie council and moving to a regional govt?
Wacka Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 So they can f---- up the county also (more than it already is)!

Can you say fugged up?? 204860[/snapback] That says it right there. They're not governing the city...they need something to keep them occupied. Beats arguing about turning antiquated grain elevators into waterfront luxury condos for four friggin' years...
