Looky Looky, looks whos in the playoffs!

Many here argue that the equation for winning a SB is simply plugging in any old retread, undrafted QB, or some 1st rounder who has been traded, or cut to another team.

How wrong you are!

Of the teams in the playoffs right now, ONLY 1 QB is not playing for the team that drafted them! Furthermore, 6 out of the 8 teams have 1st rounders!!!

NYJ- Pennington, 1st round, drafted by NYJ

IND- Manning, 1st pick, 1st round, drafted by IND

ATL- Vick, 1st pick, 1st round. drafted by ATl

Pitt- Rothlisberger, 1st round, drafted by Pitt

Minn- Culpepper, 1st round, drafted by Minn

Phi- McNabb, 1st round, drafted by Phi

STL- Bulger, 6th round, drafted by NO

NE- Brady, 6th round, drafted by NE

And yet look at all the retreads, undrafteds, or late rounders, who ARENT going to the dance! Many of these clowns have done a big fat ZIPPO for there squads or ZIPPO since going to a crappy squad after YOU all gave them there fame and claimed they were studs who could play on any team! Hell, some of these clowns, YOU wanted to be OUR QB!

NYG- Warner

Den- Plummer

Clev- Garcia

Car- Delhomme

TB- Griese

Ari- Blake (some idiots wanted him as our QB!)

NO TEAM- Dilfer

Chances are VERY good that the 2 teams in the SB both have starting 1st round QB's!

The TRUTH is that there is NO sure fire recipe. But you stack the odds in your favor by getting a guy who LOOKS to have the most ability, thats the 1st round folks!

BTW, Drew, a 1st rounder, left the team that traded him and has done SQUAT since.

Losman, drafted by us in the 1st round, Will this years story follow for us?

I agree. Waiting an entire week before saying the same thing again is actually a nice little change up I didn't see coming.

Tell me something, JP-Era...any chance you hate fat, nice people?

And none of those QBs has been playing less than 3 seasons. So you're saying we're screwed for the next few seasons regardless of our QB?

BTW, Drew, a 1st rounder, left the team that traded him and has done SQUAT since.

Yup, because a winning record, and only one losing record in three years is squat. Yeah, I'm disappointed that we didn't make the playoffs (missing it by one game two out of three seasons), but I'd hardly say that's "squat."

Oh wait, I forgot that the new mentality is "Anything less than the Superbowl meanas squat."

Definitrly the odds look very good that finally after a absence since the 1999 season a 1st round drafted QB may lead the team which drafted him to the SB and amazingly for the first time since Dallas chose Aikman in 1989 a 1st round drafted QB may in fact win the SB.

I thought this drought would end last year when Manning and McNabb defied the usual odds which have 1st rounders only deliver even a playoff berth for their team 25% of the time and both made the conferece finals. However the conventional happening (though it is not the conventional wisdom since the marketing of the QB has sold many into thinking picking a franchise QB in the 1st round is essential) won out again and both of their teams went down.

This year should finally see some success for a1st round drafted QB, but I must admit I was hoping that it would JP who finally broke the jinx.

I guess we'll have to see how fate plays out this time even though it looks very good this year that a 1st round QB pick will finally pay off. We'll have to see next year wether this occurence if it happens is merely the exception that proves the rule that drafting a QB in the first is a waste of time and money if you want to suceed.

It certainly looked to be a wasted idea for those who advocated spending the ranch and the dog on Joey Harrington. If Indy does not do the job this year, I fear that the greatest QB ever Peyton Manning will actually join Dan Marino in the list of great QBs whose huge hit on the team's ability to buy a true TEAM actually played a big role in them never winning the SB.

SB starting QB's are not always top draft picks.

Wouldn't it be a better argument if the players you examined actually won or at least went to a Super Bowl?

NE- Brady, 6th round, drafted by NE

CAR- Delhomme, Undrafted FA, signed by NO

TB- B. Johnson, 9th round, drafted by MIN

Oak- Gannon, 4th round, drafted by NE

STL- Warner, undrafted FA, signed by STL

BAL- Dilfer, 1st round, drafted by TB

NYG- Collins, 1st round, drafted by CAR

TEN- McNair, 1st round, drafted by TEN

DEN- Elway, 1st round, drafted by BAL(Indy)

ATL- Chandler, 3rd round, drafted by INDY

GB- Favre, 2nd round, drafted by ATL

NE- Bledsoe, 1st round, drafted by NE

In fact, only two out of the last eleven SB QBs were drafted in the first round by the team that they went to the SB with. One of those two player?......Drew Bledsoe.

In addition, two of the "clowns" that you listed have won Super Bowls unlike all but one of the QBs that you listed as proof that a first round QB playing for the team that drafted him is the recipe for success. And that one QB? .....sixth round draft pick.

Gee, your SO right. If only we had a retread who went to and DID not win a SB as the starting QB on our team, ohh wait we do!

Gee, your right, if only we had Warner this year, then we would be all set!

Apparently, Joey Harrington is now done even though he only played for a decent team THIS year out of the 3 that he has been part of there team. So, yeah Joey is done. Me, Ill take my chances that Joey will still prove the doubters wrong. Yes, I think the guy will be good still. Yes, I think he has the right attitude to make up for average skills.

As far as Manning, I dont buy that he is instantly Marino if he doesnt win THIS year.

And as far as Manning and McNabb, how nice would it be to actually MAKE the damn playoffs rather than what we have done? Manning at least GETS there, thats more than I can say for Drew!
