cage
Wow, wasn't expecting this one... I guess its a good thing he walked away from us last year http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000228928/article/robert-meachems-body-reportedly-is-broken-down
Kevin
Ouch. I was bummed that Buffalo didn't sign him. Now, not so much.

NoSaint
Surprised about the possible severity of the body issues, not surprised about him struggling in general though.
San Jose Bills Fan
Nix was way off on this one. Glad it worked out for us.
NoSaint
Nix was way off on this one. Glad it worked out for us. Good chance he was swayed by scouting him coming out of college, when he was a very good prospect.... I've said it a few times but it took the guy two years to learn the saints offense, so its not shocking he's struggle with 2 new playbooks in 2 years. Even then his main packages were run plays, or play action and a simple deep route. It never seemed like he was fully trusted.
BillsGuyInMalta
We seriously dodged a bullet with this guy. Especially considering how much young WR we have stockpiled now, maybe signing him last season keeps one or two of those guys off our current squad. I know many were livid we didnt get Alexander too, and his knee already came apart, as was feared by anyone familiar with him too. Sometimes things work out for the best, even if its not immediately or easily visible in the moment.
boyst
Never understood the hype of this guy. Brees throwing anyone the ball is going to give them nice numbers.

NoSaint
Never understood the hype of this guy. Brees throwing anyone the ball is going to give them nice numbers. Physically he had a lot of raw talent - there's a reason the saints took him in the first round. It's not like he was just some guy off the street. The thing was he always under performed - which given his coach and qb should've been a big red flag. Many chalked it up as them having too many weapons.... Doesn't seem to be the case though. It's like the rule of never signing a Belicheck LB or CB. They just play better there.
C.Biscuit97
Classic FA freak out. Meachem was a dime a dozen wr at best. Every guy who plays with Brees is at a huge advantage. Meachem was whatever. But fans freak out during FA. Remember folks freaking about Bryant Johnson? there are a ton of receivers in the draft that are better than a guy like RM. So happy to how things worked out.
Oberyn
Interesting that the article talked about how the new GM needed to man up and eat the dead salary to not put the team at a competitive disadvantage. Sounds like the same choice facing Whaley with Mark Anderson...and he found the stones to cut him before training camp even kicked off. Kudos to Whaley for being a real GM - a GM who puts not having to eat dead money over being competitive is not going to be long on the job. billsfan89
Bills named their price with this guy and they didn't want to go over that amount and it was good they did, I would say it panned out for the Bills but Anderson (the guy they paid out the money that theoretically would have been his) is no longer on the roster. The Bills ended up choosing between a giant douche and a turd sandwich.
Doc
The difference is that Anderson got injured and at 30, didn't recover enough. Meachem never was injured IIRC.

This article made his RMs surgery history seem more serious than its ever been portrayed. What's really behind the medical curtain, who knows. White Linen
I'm always surprised that Nix gets maligned for bringing the guy in to talk. His agent got a call from SD talking big money and they took off in a hurry. That's the extent of our interest as far as any of us know.
