cage Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Vegas still has us only winning 3 games next year. Therefore, should we tank it to get clowney? They say he's the next Bruce smith. Seriously, I don't want to tank the season but clowney is going to be awesome this year and in the nfl in years to come There are so many things wrong with this thought, its not clear where to begin. I agree with all the responses before me on this one and would add in that anyone caught doing this would be investigated and the scandal would rival BountyGate and the Pats videotaping scandals. The likely punishment could include forfieting our first round draft pick (thats what happened to Pats) and/or having Marrone suspended for a year (thats what happened to New Orleans). Also corrupting the intergrity of the game goes back to Chicago Black Sox and Pete Rose type problems ...and we could fill up the next 10 pages of this thread listing all the "can't miss HOFers" drafted in the first round who tanked our of the league in a few years
Ozymandius Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Can I have a link to on that or what casino I have to go to bet on over 3 ?? It's not like a $50 Max bet teaser to open an account is it ?? There are zero places offering that. Bills seasons win o/u has always been 6.5 or possibly 6. I actually have no idea what the original poster is talking about. My first thought was that he saw early preview lines for all 16 games and the Bills were only favored in 3 of them, but I'm not aware of any casino, Vegas or online, that would have those preview lines posted.
zazie Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 it is possible this thread is a bit premature. Vegas oddsmakers get it wrong sometimes too. 'Tanking it' in August, great plan.
PromoTheRobot Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Let's tank for Manziel! Do you see how much press he gets now? He's gonna be awesome! Slam dunk, baby! PTR

UGH!
eball Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 To the OP -- why don't you pose this question to ANY professional athlete in ANY team sport, and report back with his response? /thread
thurst44 Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 I think this is the bills strategy. This is why they signed kolb. Yes...that is why they signed a QB who went 4-0 with a mediocre-at-best team last year. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Kolb fan, and am an advocate of EJ starting on Day 1, by any means, but he's probably not particularly better or worse than Fitz. Chances are this team will not be as bad as many here think they will...most likely they will be mediocre as always (but more fun to watch)...there's a chance with CJ, Freddie, a good DC, and all that speed, they could be the surprise team...
KD in CA Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Every year someone makes this stupid comment about tanking the season to get a top pick! Anyone around feel like having a winning team instead?? Come on, you have to take the long view. Imagine if the Bills tanked the next 5 seasons and had the #1 overall pick for 5 straight years. The talent here would be ridiculous!!

JM57 Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 I don't *want* them to tank but if EJ days well and the team is competitive but still ends up 3-13 or 4-12 and gets Clowney? I'm gonna dance for days
Mark80 Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Just wondering if the OP wanted us to tank last season for Geno Smith as well?
Billshank Redemption Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 vegas has us over/under 6.5 games I feel like someone always posts this and has no idea what they are talking about.
Meatloaf Sandwich Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Come on, you have to take the long view. Imagine if the Bills tanked the next 5 seasons and had the #1 overall pick for 5 straight years. The talent here would be ridiculous!! Except you wouldn't be able to sign all of them when contract time comes. Doing things like that is called being a farm team. They have a hard time paying for the players now.
bobblehead Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Of course no team is ever going to do this The Colts absolutely did that to get Luck.
Billshank Redemption Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Wait, three wins but EJ has 6-1 odds for OROY? Current odds have EJ winning at +2000 A.K.A 20/1. Geno Smith is 12/1, Montee Ball is leading at 5/1 and Woods is higher than Manuel at 18/1
starrymessenger Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 The Colts absolutely did that to get Luck. ...and they were right to do it.
PromoTheRobot Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 People who win the lottery buy tickets. PTR
BuffOrange Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 I'd never tank for a non-QB. Luck otoh would've definitely been worth it; despite the best efforts of people here to compare him to Jamarcus Russel.
Meatloaf Sandwich Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 (edited) The Colts absolutely did that to get Luck. You didn't see the end of the season for the Colts then. They started winning games and came very close to getting the #2 pick. Also no guy that loses their job when they lost was trying to tank for an organization who wasn't going to keep them. ....lybob Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 I'd hate the Bills throwing the season for a player unless there was an awesome catch phrase for it like "suck for luck", so lets see "going down for the clown" kinda strained how about "playing fair and not tanking for Seferian-Jenkins"
