Anyone ever live in Las Vegas?

Recommended Posts

The wife is being considered for a position there. We've visited a couple times but have no idea what it's like living there? What areas would you recommend for housing? Are there sales/income taxes? How are property taxes? A lot of crime? No kids so schools are not a factor. My only personal need is adult league hockey. What is your take on the quality of day-to-day life in Las Vegas?

I lived there for 25 years and raised two children there. Moved back to Buffalo in 2007. I lived in the Northwest part, basically Summerlin and would recommend that area. There are a number of nice areas, and would find the best school as a guide as to where to live. My girls turned out fine and received a good (public school education). Just make sure you settle in the right area.

I lived there for a few years. Lived on the border of Las Vegas and Henderson. I'd recommend Henderson or better yet nowadays I'd go with Seven Hills. It's a bit away from the strip but very easily accessible. Property values are high there and most likely will rose as the strip works its way down that end. Very nice housing available everywhere you go. Summerlin, Silverado Ranch, Henderson. Stay out of N. Las Vegas, IMO it's older and more run down.

There are no state taxes in the state of Nevada which is a huge plus.

I lived my time there but missed the Buffalo feel to living. Was younger so I was out boozing all day and all night but still lived a somewhat normal life considering my age. There's tons of things to do, and places to see as long as you like casinos and hot, hot, hot weather. When I lived there, there was a record for straight 110 degree days and 115 degree days. At the end of the day though, I'd rather have 110 degrees with 3% (and that's high) humidity than 85 in Buffalo feeling like I'm always walking out of the shower.

If you want/need any other information, give me a ring brother.

Of course. There are direct flights to Buffalo, aren't there?
